itisproven,saysthead.Takingcontrolofourowndestinygivesthepowertothe
people.Wewillstrengthen[our]nationalsecuritywhileweseetheblueskyinthe
backgroundshowingacleanfuture,freeofcorruption.Americaispointedupwardsasit
aimsfornewheights.Youtharetargetedbythesleekmoderndesign,aimingthem
towardsthefuture.Ourdimpastisovershadowedbythelightofthesun.Usingasolar
panelshapedlikeAmericaemphasisespatriotismandsolidarity.Weasacountrycanto
worktogethertoaccomplishacommongoal.Solarisheretohelpnottoharm.The
graphicsandtexttogetherpullintherepublicananddemocraticcitizenswithout
alienatinganyone.

onlytwocolorsusedintheimage,blueandwhite.IntheAmericanflag,white
representsvirtueandinnocence.Bluerepresentsvigilanceandjustice.Thecolorsshow
thepurityandauthorityournationcouldachieve.
Thetextintheadiswhatunitestheredandbluepartiestogether.Democratsby
naturearemoreliberal,whilerepublicansaremoreconservative.Startingoffbysaying,
Itssimpleanditsprovendoesnotleantoeithersideofthetwoparties.Staying
neutralisagoodwaytokeepeveryoneeducated.Theadthenrelatestotheliberal
populationbystatingthatsolarenergywill,Improveitsenvironment,increaseits
energyindependence.Theappealthengoestotheconservativeswith,strengthenits
nationalsecurity,andbuilditseconomy.Thetextthenbringsbothpartiestogetherwith
thisstatement:letsworktogethertohelpAmericarealizethepromiseofsolar.The
goalofthetextwastoconnectwitheverycitizenthatreadsitwithoutbeingoffensive,
whichtheyseemtoaccomplishveryeffectively.
Theadconnectswithitsviewersbyusingdifferentformsofrhetoricalstrategies.
OneofthemainstrategiestheadusesisshowingAmericaasasolarpanel.Depicting
Americaevokeseveryonespatriotism.Patriotismisoneunitingfactorthateverycitizen
inthiscountrycanrelateto.Beingliftedintotoairandpointedtowardstheskywiththe
sunshiningdowntellsusthatsolarpowerwillimprovethiscountry.Theadshowsus
thatweareaimedfornewheights.Ourfutureisatahigherlevelthanitisnowandthat

futureisbright.WhatweseeafterAmericabeingliftedarethewordsPowertothe
People.Usingthatsloganasthetitlereferstotwopoints.Thefirstitemitreferstois
partofthehistoryofthiscountry,theBlackPantherssloganallpowertothepeople
(Power,para.1)whentheywerefightingforequalityandademocracy.Thesecond
meaningisbygivingallpeopletheopportunitytocreatetheirownpower,notonlyin
energybutinindependanceaswell.Thenextpointthatwenoticeisthecolorscheme
ofblueandwhite.OntheAmericanflagthecolorbluerepresentsvigilanceand
justice.Theblueskytellsusthatsolarisjustandrighteous.Ittellsusthatthepeople
trustsolar.Whiterepresentsinnocenceandpurity.Whitecloudsshowusinthe
backgroundthatsolardoesnot.Solarpowerisclean.
Whatthesolaradistellingusisthateveryonecanandshouldhavesolarpanels.
Butishavingasolarpanelreallygoodforeveryone?In

WarricktellsushowsolarenergyishurtingsomeAmericans.Hesays,Solarpanels
hurtthepoorbydrivingupelectricityratesforeveryoneelse(Warrick,para.6).Solar
energyisportrayedasawonderfulsourceofenergythatcanlowerourratesand
maybeevenbringinmoneyifyouhaveasurplushowever,thepoorfamiliesinthis
countryseeitasaburden.Themorewealthyfamiliesintheirareamightbeabletobuy
anicesolarpanel,makingtheirlifemorecozy,whichinturnhurtsthelessfortunateby
drivingupthepriceofelectricityforthebillsthattheyarealreadystrugglingtopay.
Solarenergyhasitsprosandcons,althoughitisgoodfornearlyeveryonethereare
somenegativeexternalitiesassociatedwithsolar.

togetherconnectsallpartieswithoutalienatinganyone.Theadrelatestoanyparty
whetheritbeconservatives,environmentalists,orliberals.Itbringsoutthepatriotismin
