SUFFOLK CHAPTER NEWS

Vol. 15 No. 7

January 2016

From the Chapter Chairmans Desk

My Dear Brother Knights,

CHAPTER
OFFICERS

I hope you all had a very blessed Christmas and that all of your prayers were
answered.
Our annual Chapter Christmas Party was a huge success with an exceptional
attendance this year. As usual it was a wonderful program and the talented performers
should be commended. I trust that everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. Much thanks to
Halpin/Rogan Council for hosting this impressive evening.
th

Our January 8 meeting at Bishop McGann Council in Bay Shore is also an open
meeting. There will be a light repast at 7:00 pm, followed by the meeting. Grand Knights
please remember to invite your Columbiette Presidents to this meeting, as it is the Charity
Drive Kick Off and we need all involved for it to be a success. Please make every effort to
attend.
Please see Joe Tumminello for your 300 Club ticket. The 300 Club is designed to
consistently replenish the funds to sustain the FAC program so please purchase a number
so that we can get this program off the ground. The tickets are $50.00 each, but if you cant
afford one on your own, chip in with some of your friends. We need to have funds available
to assist our brother Knights and sister Columbiettes in financial despair.
nd

Remember, ALL Chapter meetings are on the 2 Friday of each month. Any
changes will be prominently posted. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions for making
our meetings more interesting or entertaining. I will look forward to hearing from you.

Suffolk Knights Bring Christmas to Woodward Childrens Center

For the 2nd year, the Councils and Knights in Suffolk County have helped to make
Christmas for the 80 students a Woodward Childrens Center in Freeport, a special
one. The Woodward Center offers a quality education in an environment that is
attentive to their social and emotional needs. A number of the students attending
Woodward come from the 5 boroughs of NYC. After their Winter Concert, Santa
and a few elves visited each of the classrooms, where each child received a special
gift, along with a goodie bag. Your generosity will allow the school administrators
to take the 80 students on a field trip in January. For many of the students, it will
be the 1st time they experience ice skating at a local ice rink.
To recognize our support the Suffolk County Chapter Knights of Columbus, have
been given a place of honor on the Woodward Childrens Center Donor wall.
On behalf of Mr. Ingino, Executive Director; Mrs. Colucci, Principal; my daughter
Joanna, Music Teacher and Therapist; the Board of Directors, and everyone at
Woodward Childrens Center - Thank you all for helping make their Christmas so
special.

In 1954, lobbying by the Order of the Knights of Columbus

helped convince the U.S. Congress to add the phrase "under
God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. President Dwight
Eisenhower wrote to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart thanking
the Knights for their "part in the
movement to have the words 'under God'
added to our Pledge of Allegiance."
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United
States of America, and to the republic for
which it stands, one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an
apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his
life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up
his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we
may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor
I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
