CorporateTyranny
The East India Company, Time Warner, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs.
What do
these companies have in common?
(Rhetorical Question)They are, or have been linked to
political and governmental elections throughout history.
Our society has been shaped and built
under the shadow of these big corporations
(Direct Address). Long influenced bytheirideasand
legal preferences, our politicians have felt their presence through seemingly innocent donations
to run their questionably expensivecampaigns.Theyhavebeensimplyhandedpower,thepower
to control our government, and through that, our society. The United States is definitely notthe
only one affected by this, as countries all around the world are continually falling prey to this
form of tyranny.
From the small city elections, medial mayoral elections, to the bigpresidential
elections,everyoneisaffected,andinfluenced
(Antithesis).
Corporatocracy. A term often used to identify a political system either completely ruled
by, or controlled to a certainextentbycorporations.Oftenthrownaroundinpoliticaldiscussion,
this term refers to a society run entirely through corporations. Exposing the truth, that many of
our trusted politicians are supported by bignamecompanies, wantinglawstobenefitandhelp
them. Even now, corporations are given rights that we have as people (CorporateTyrannyrules
the Global Economy).
Most of the amendments in the Bill ofRights applyeventocorporations,
giving them power,andmoney, andcontrol,andsupport
(Polysyndeton).Onethebiggestreasons

for this rapid growth of corporate presence in our political system in because of the industrial
revolution in the 1800s (The Greatest Threat to Liberty), and the higher demand for rules
pertaining to businesses. At first, the government would only support their legal contracts, but
they sought to greaten their political footing. Eventually they were allowed to spend money in
ballotinitiatives,leadingtotheirextensiveparticipationinelections.
As soon as the need for funds began to skyrocket, we see big business start to play
political roles in our society.
The creation of political partiescreatesfurthersegregation,fueling
competition between candidates, which calls for more money for more and more extravagant
shows of political prowess
(Alliteration). This calls a very important fact to attention.Dowethe
people, actually have any power or word in governmental processes, or simply the illusion
thereof?
Will we actually ever be able to put an end to the excessive control big businesses
actually have in our political systems? Can we slow their monopolizationofourgovernment,or
is their footing already too strong? An simple way to end this spread is to reduce the influence
they have in our elections.
Createmoneycapsorlimitationsonthesponsorshipsfromindividual
corporations, or even completely stop it
(Imperative). Similar to
salary caps on sports
teams
(Allusion). Another way to do this is to add new amendments, explainingandconstricting
the extent of corporate control in our lives (10ways to Fight the Corporatocracy). Admittedly,
this process will definitely not happen quickly, or overnight, it may not even take effect in the
nextdecade.
Butifwearetocreatechange,changehastostartfromus
(Chiasmus).
But doesnt everyone deserve rights? There will be many people opposing this solution,
as it takes away many of the basic rights granted to people. Freedom to vote and participate in

government.
People
(Short Sentence)
.
Granted corporations incorporate people, incorporate
shareholders, incorporate employees, and incorporate directors
(Anaphora), the entire company
shouldnothavethesamerightsasthepeoplewithinit.
To gauge the magnitude of this change is difficult to conceptualize. As we begin to see
politicalbodiesbreakaway fromthe
chainsofbigcorporations
(Metaphor),wewillseethereturn
of control into the hands of people we can trust, with truthful and trusted agendas. So will you
join together to fight the corporate tyranny, or sit idly by as your power in government slowly
slipsthroughyourfingers?
