FORCE AND MOTION

What I will know and be able to do by the end of this unit:

*We can tell where an object is or where it is going in relation to another object.
-Describe location and movement
-Classify types of motion ((straight, curved, vibrating)
-Interpret a distance and time graph
-Locate objects and describe movements on a grid map

*Force affects motion.

-Classify forces as either contact (push, pull, friction, buoyancy) or
non-contact (gravity, magnetism)
-Observe the effect static electricity has on the movement of objects
-Observe and describe how friction affects how things move
-Measure the amount of friction needed to move an object in Newtons
-Predict the movement of an object on different surfaces

*Gravity is a force that affects everything.

-Measure the pull of gravity in Newtons using a spring scale

*An object’s motion is affected by mass and force.

-Observe that when forces are balanced, objects don’t move
-Observe that when forces are unbalanced, objects will move
-Describe how an unbalanced force can affect the speed and the direction
of motion
-Predict how the amount of force changes the speed of an object
-Predict how the mass of an object affects a change in speed
