1. Computer

Computer means programmable machine.


Computers follow a specific set of
instructions and execute a set of prerecorded instructions.

2. Desktop

A desktop consists of pictures, called icons


that show, files, folders, and other types of
documents (that is, letters, reports, pictures).

3. Icon

An icon is a small picture on the desktop that


represents an object or a program.

4. Shortcut

Shortcuts are placed on a desktop to


conveniently access files that are stored
deep in the directory system.

5. Taskbar

The taskbar is a desktop toolbar application


that lets you perform actions such as
switching between open windows and
starting new applications.

6. Wallpaper

Wallpaper is the background image of the


desktop.

7. Hardware

Hardware is the actual objects that you can


touch, like mouse, keyboard and printer.

8. Software

Software is the programs and other operating


information used by a computer.

9. CPU

The brain of the computer.

Modem

A device or program that lets a computer


transmit data over, for example, cable lines.

Peripheral

A peripheral is an external device that is


attached to the computer.

Input Device

Any machine that feeds data into a


computer. For example, a keyboard. . .

Output Device

Any machine capable of representing


information from a computer. This includes
display screens and printers.

CD-RW

A compact disk that can be recorded, erased


and rerecorded many times.

DVD-R

Short for DVD-Recordable, a recordable DVD


format. Becomes permanent on the disk, it
only records data once.

Byte

A unit of measurement used to measure


data. One byte contains eight binary bits.

RAM

Random Access Memory. The RAM chip holds


the data and programs while the CPU works
with them. Temporary storage.

Read-Only Memory Chip. The ROM chip holds


the instructions for the computer to operate.
Permanent Storage

A program or code that is loaded onto your

knowledge. It makes the computer run

legitimate enterprise.

Through domain spoofing, pharming seeks to


obtain personal or private information.
Similar to phishing.

Ergonomics is the interaction between a


worker in its working environment, like how a
chair should be positioned, lighting and
many other things that make working
comfortable.

Short for Relative Strength Index. A chart


used to show the current and historical
strength or weakness of a stock or market
based on the closing prices of a recent
trading period.

Short for Corporate Social Responsibility. A


companys responsibility towards the
community and environment that they
operate in.

Short for, electronic waste. Waste caused by
