Using Differentiated Instruction
One may ask what differential instruction is. This is where student of a divers environment
needs are being meet by the teacher, which is basically is the planning and delivery of a teachers
lesson. Differentiating instruction also embraces collaborative learning and global access to
people and other resources. They should tap into the student readiness, needs and the interest of
all. Through this process the teacher's responsibility is to connect the content, the process, and the
product to the student. Now with the advancement of technology, teachers have incorporated into
the lesson to still meet those needs of each student.
As a teacher it is our job to make sure we provide the best education possible to all
students, in saying this not all student are the same. Each student is unique and having their own
style of learning. So in order for all each student to excel in learning, we as teacher need to tailor
lesson to address each student needs. And how do we do this? Through differentiated instruction
and technology. The use of technology can offer a wide range of possibilities.
According to McCarthy (2015) teachers already have the tools to differentiate in powerful
ways for all learners, technology help to enhance the learning for the students. The first
technology tool I would use to help develop my differentiated instruction would be
Surveymonkey, this tool would help me to conduct a simple poll of the readiness, interest, and
learning profile of each student. Multimedia tool so students can incorporate audio and video so
students are able to relate to the content. Also a concept map tool, this is where student can show

the completion of the learning activity. With the aid of computers student are able to make
connection with outside resources in continuing the learning process.
There are always a positive and negative to anything in life, technology in the classroom is
no different. Having technology in the classroom enhances the learning process for students, from
computers to many different software programs. Computers are very useful to student because
they assist the student as tutors and also assist the teachers in resources for the educational
environment. Students are now able to have information at their fingertips in a matter of seconds.
According to (Jackson, 2012) many student either own a cellphone or computer and with this in
mind students have never known a world without personal access to information technology and
often takes it for granted.
According to Gulley (2003) the disadvantage that people feel is that computers take away
for the bond of human emotions of students and teachers. There are those who feel like computer
does not allow the student to think for themselves and that the computer does all the thinking for
the student. Yes technology is a great asset to the classroom but another disadvantage is the
upkeep and maintenance expenses of computers. The Constitution Guru (2015) stated that once
the technology is purchased the upkeep of software and hardware become the expense, since
technology is constantly evolving this is another expense for the school, also the cost to
replacement equipment and the updating of software.
As technology advances and so will the way teacher present instruction in the classroom.
Technology has enhances the classroom for teachers and students. Teachers are able to prepare
differential lesson to accommodate each student. Not everyone agree that technology in the
classroom is a good thing, but as technology evolves more and more, all must realize that
technology is prepared students for the world of today.
