Objective

L. Kael Marsh, B.S

lisa.k.marsh-1@ou.edu

My Masters Degree in Library Studies will be completed in the Spring 2016. My long-term goal is to
obtain a management position that will allow me to develop and implement programs that will reignite
the passion of patrons for the library. Patrons need to know how the library can increase both their
quality and enjoyment of life by increasing literacy, job skills, and entrepreneurship. The use of library
resources creates a competitive workforce for college graduates, employed adults, and individuals
aspiring for more opportunities in their current or new vocation. Libraries expand life skills,
opportunities and create communities within the larger city. Upon completion of school, many adults
view the library as a place consisting of books and research material only, and never return. My
passion, and dream, is to bring them back through the doors and show them what a 21 st Century
library has to offer.

Statement of purpose:
There are three passions in my life that I think give the most meaning to what I do and why I make a
difference in this world and in a library organization. Im a mother, I like kids and they like me too,

Page 4
even as their parents are comfortable with my being around them. Being a Mom, engaging children
and raising them to be happy adults and working at their full potential is one area of my life I am most
proud of. Another is my work with Service Dogs. Helping individuals with challenges, (that are just
more obvious to society than the ones faced by most individuals), learn that they have a place and a
role in a healthy society is very important to me. My favorite part is training dogs to open doors for
people, but a Service Dog most often opens the doors of peoples hearts and allows handlers the
confidence to be part of society again. Most Important: My passion is to demonstrate the power a
public library can have in creating a place where everyone can achieve their greatest imaginative
goals, whether vocation or hobby, for a lifetime of learning and unlimited access to information is
driven by the belief that librarians need to demonstrate the incredible opportunities that await our
society every time we unlock the doors.
