The following Readers are examples of those that I have written for News Valdosta
during Summer Workshop in 2015.

Juvenile Shooting Case


Monday evening complaints were made to Valdosta Police about gunshots.
Valdosta Police arrested a 15-year old male suspect with the help of witnesses.
Officers on the scene reported that there was evidence that the gun had been
discharged within Valdosta City limits. The juvenile was detained and transported to
RYDC in Thomasville.
Gasoline Truck Wreck
Approximately 1,500 gallons of gas was spilled from an 8,500 gallon gasoline
truck near the Albany and Worth County line yesterday morning. The driver hopped
over the curb and over-corrected the vehicle causing him to lose control. The driver
was reported injured and was transported to a hospital. A second gasoline truck was
called to carry the remaining gas and a hazmat crew work hard to contain the spill
on the highway.
2 yr. old Attempted Kidnapping Case
Saturday afternoon a white male attempted to kidnap a 2 year old child from
her front porch where she was playing. Her mother went inside to check on her
other child who was asleep when she heard her daughter scream. She saw the
stranger holding her daughter and snatched her child away from him. The
kidnapper took off on foot and the police have sent out extra patrols to search for
him. The assailant is described as being 5'9-5'10 in height 160-170 lbs., with brown
hair and a scar on the left side of his face. If you have any information or seen

crime tip line.
Sheriffs Deputy Sentence in Hispanic Case
A former Lowndes County Sheriff's deputy along with two civilians was
sentenced for their roles in a conspiracy to steal money from Hispanic drivers. The
former Sheriff's deputy and the two civilians pleaded guilty to the crime. The former
Sheriff's deputy admitted to pulling Hispanic drivers over to unlawful traffic stops.

The two co-conspirators would then demand money from the drivers so they could
avoid arrest or deportation. The former deputy received a sentence of 21 months
and 2 years supervised release. The two civilians received 24 months and 30
months with 3 years supervised release.
Colquitt Co. Prisoner Escapee Update
Here's an update on the Colquitt County Prison escapee. Kenneth Martin
Anderson was captured in Atlanta Tuesday night. Anderson has been on the run
since last Friday. Anderson escaped during a work lunch break at West View
Cemetery in Moultrie. According to officials, Anderson is expected to be transferred
back to Colquitt County Prison to have an arraignment on new charges.
Child Left in Car
A 911 call came in Tuesday afternoon to the Valdosta Police in regards to a 2
year old child who was left in a car at Walmart. The citizen who called took action
and got the child, who was soaked in sweat, out of the vehicle. The child was left in
the car by his grandmother. The grandmother indicated to police that the child was
asleep and she didn't want to wake him. The child was alone in the car for 12
minutes. The temperature at the time the child was in the car was 96 degrees. The
mother, who was at work, was contacted and the child was transported to SGMC to
be medically evaluated. The case is being investigated and charges of reckless
endangerment against the grandmother are expected to be filed.
