Solving a System of Equations (Trace, Table,

Calc, Intersect)

Graphing:

1) Turn on Calculator
2) Press Y= button (located on top row of grey keys)
3) Enter the first equation into “Y1”
4) Enter the second equation into “Y2”
5) To graph the equation(s) press the “graph key”
6) You can now see a visual graph of the equations you entered

Trace:

1) Repeat the steps to graph an equation (1-4), but instead of pressing the “graph”
key, now press “trace” (located one key to the left of “graph”)
2) You will notice a “spider” that can move along a selected graph along with
coordinates for the point the spider is on.
3) To find the intercept, move the spider to the point where you two lines cross.
4) The coordinates of the intercept will be displayed

Table:

1) To find a table of values for each equation you entered press

the 2nd key (blue key on the first row of keys within the “face
plate” area.) then press “graph”
2) A table will be shown

Calc:
1) Various features are available through the “calc” menu. To
access the “calc” menu press 2nd then “trace” (located on
top row of grey keys)
2) To calculate the intercept of the two equations press “5” or intersect
3) The calculator will ask for two curves to guess the intercept
4) Select the curves and press enter
5) The calculator will display “guess?”, at this prompt hit enter

Trouble Shoot:
1) If you can not see one or both line(s), but see a coordinate plane, you may need
to adjust your “viewing window”. Press the “Zoom” key located on the grey top
row of keys. Select “0” to have the calculator automatically fit your lines into the
window. Select “6” to return to “standard view”.
2) If the calculator does not respond:
a. Check that you pressed the “graph key”
b. Make sure an equation is entered
c. Recheck the above steps
3) If the calculator becomes unresponsive (frozen)
a. Press 2nd “on” to turn off the calculator
b. Turn on the calculator
