Description

InSeedsofDreamsthereisawomanwithanorganinherhairheldupbyajokerand
twomermaidsoutoftheorganemerge5wispycloudsofdifferentimageswith1inthe
center.Thefarleftcloudhasagreeklookinggrimacingstatuesheadintheforeground
beingcleanedbytwomen.Behindthemthereisabaywithaman'sstatuelegsspread
standinginthecenterholdingasmokinggoblet,threepeopleathisfeetwithhandsin

theair.Aboatpassesunderhimanotherisofftotheright.Inthebackgroundthereare
columnedbuildings.Alltherestofthecloudimagesarejustasdetailedandmore
bizarre.Bythewoman'sfacetherearetwosmallerpeople,onemanonewoman,their
torsoshumanandwherelegswouldbeatrumpetonthemanandcelloontheother
theirfacesseemsinister.Bythemainwomansshouldersandbustthereiscaligraphyin
anotherlanguage.Herfaceisserenewitheyesclosedandafewlocksofherhair,
escapedfromthemessyupdo,hangdownbyhershoulders.

Analysis

ThecompositionofSeedsofDreamsisaroughruleofthirdsandpossiblyinverted
goldentriangle.Doroshevauseslightanddarkcontrasttodrawtheeyetokeypoints
likethewoman'sface.Oddlyunbalancedusingproportiontocreateadisconcerting
senseinordertoemphasizethedreamsonthetophalf.Thewavysmoothlinesofher
hair,theorgan,anddreambubblescreaterepetitionasdotherootsandtreebranches
throughoutthepiece.Thespaceisusedtocreateavisualarchthatmovestheeye
upwardswiththeoverallrhythm.Therearelotsoftexturespresentmostlysmooth

stealsandeatshisdreamsbecausesheisasuccubus.SoIpresumethewomaninthe
focusofthepieceisthewifeandthevarioussurrealimagescomingoutoftheorganon
herheadaretheman'sstolendreams.Thefemalemermaidclingingtothemermanas
heglancesoverhisshoulderathercouldsymbolizetheirparasiticrelationship.The
dreamssymbolizeconquest/greed,death/birth,fear/supernatural,
merrymaking/adventure,andwisdom/ageingmovingclockwisefromthefarleft.The
centerdreamsfishcouldbethemanandtheflowerthesuccubus.Thecellomanand
harpwomancouldbeotherdemons.

Judgement

Fromahedonisticstandingthispieceissuccessfulbecauseitispleasingtotheeyeand
feelsnice.Itisanintriguingpieceanditcapturestheaudience.
