this cover is out of focussed and blurred. This is to draw attention to the women on the front. Her mid close up shot fills the majority of the cover and the blurry effect also gives the cover, in my opinion a cool, soft look about it. The cover isnt sharp and looks attractive to pick up. Having the background image there though, is better than having no image at all as the shot looks so much more natural and pleasing to see. The graphology and the
context match when it
comes to analysing the main frontal photograph of the young girl. The title of the magazine is called INDIE and the girl here is dressed in a unique way. The fashion is vintage and meets with the genre of the magazine. The barcode, date, issue number, price, language etc. is displayed in the left hand bottom corner to it is out of the way and not obvious. The barcode is something that NEEDS to be on the issue cover, so people can buy the magazine. The issue number and date are sometimes put in other places on magazine covers, but on this INDIE magazine, all the small print, essential
This magazine is based
around the Z MODEL. This is a very bold and big masterhead for a magazine design layout. The use of the bright white colour draws attention to the magazine and encourages a certain social group in society to be attracted to it. The title of this magazine is called INDIE, therefore the group of interest would be those in society who purchase music magazines that are indie. Indie is a short form of "independence" or "independent"; it may refer to: Independent media. Indie art, fine arts made by artists independent of commercial fine arts establishments. Indie design, for handmade products by independent artisans. The independence of this type of typography is reflected through its big bolding and capital letters. The two faint white lines that appear to look like pain marks behind the title also showThis signsis of the unique independence. only other main
text on the cover of the page
apart from the title. The font is very unique and the font isnt that clear the read unless you focus on it. The text reads COME AND SEE THE BLINDING A band only recognisable to the audience of the magazine, therefore the information is relevant to the genre and context of the magazine.
This is a very interesting choice of
image. It is the only photograph on the page as the background is white and the rest of the colour is being represented by text. Half of the womans face is painted white and false eyelashes are stuck on her face deliberately. She is dressed in a stereotypical way considering her ethnicity which was no doubt done of purpose. Again, like the first cover her facial expression is serious, which would indicate the matters involved with her article in the magazine are serious. Maybe the situation with her face makeup is something to do with her article piece. The half white covered face and false eyelashes could be representing the typical English women and the other half that leave out her natural tan and African jewellery could be her true colours. Whatever the stylist behind chose to do, it is dramatic and leaves an effect on the audience. The fact there is no other image on the cover makes the human eye look directly at the women before or after the other main part of the cover which is the title.
These are the little bits of information
displayed on the cover that would normally help persuade the customer to buy the magazine. They provide us with sub-headings and allow us to get a feel of the genre of the magazine. On the majority of covers the subheading that is the clearest would relate to the artist or celebrity (if one available) that is on the main cover. These two subheadings are displayed in big, black boxes. The white and black contrast alongside each other nicely. In my opinion it makes the magazine seem more like a professional piece of work, because readers would normally connote the black and white colour scheme to newspapers that are extremely
This masterhead is big and fills the
whole top first half of the cover page. The writing is in red, which is a bold colour that is relatable and attention seeking. Again, like the first cover image the image and the title of the magazine take up the majority of the page. The font choice is interesting. It is joined up and would maybe be hard to recognise at a first glance. The masterhead is obviously very important to this magazine, therefore These bits of the magazine are in it is enlarged.
readers eyes, irrelevant. This is why they
are designed the way they are. In corner cornered away in small print. As long as the purchaser knows the price of the magazine and if it is the right one or not who helped produce the magazine is NOT their problem. Of course it would be for us media students, but the other information like the dates and what language the magazine is in doesnt appeal to them. However, this is all necessary information. The barcode isnt taking any light from the image, which is why it is so small and in the corner. The information is placed well for a cover.

American colour of red matching the genre. The other detail that makes it unique to American media products, is the fact that the magazine is 10 dollars and there is no apparent barcode on display, indicating the difference in American magazines compared to English magazines.
The date and price are shown
in a bigger font size compared to the other two magazine covers that had theirs in a small print in the corners. This is unique to the magazine and allowing these parts of information to be clearly seen on the page substitutes the need for any other information to be included on the cover.
The strange costume
and design that the man has been designed to allows the magazine to prove its impedance and genre. This is done in order to tackle to correct target audience.
I struggled to decide whether this was an F MODEL or a H MODEL. I decided the text read better as in the shape
This is the biggest
masterhead of the 3 covers. There is a lot of spacing around this magazine, because the attention is drawn to the smiling man in the centre. The big bold black lettering is centre of the page and creates a top banner.
The actual photograph itself is centre of
the page (with the mans body leaning slightly more over to the right). The clothes the man is wearing are all black to create the black and red theme throughout. He as well is dressed strangely. Accessories on his head allow him to look different and the white painted face makeup is becoming a trend by imitating a cartoon character or something relating to his context. The red lipstick is a statement and the fact he has makeup on is subverting from the dominant ideology that only women can flaunt their face with makeup. Again the stylists have been clever with his dress up to rove a point. An independent audience will maybe be targeted for this? Just like the first INDIE magazine cover.expression The strange facial
along with the creepy looking
red smeared smile created a pre judgment for the audience and before picking up this magazine a certain personality within people would be attracted to it. Of course, it is most certainly different.
