BY-LAW AMENDMENT 15.

11
ASWSUV Fifteenth Senate 2005-06 Session
By Senator Balderas and Vice President Horsey
6 March 2006

BE IT ENACTED BY THE ASWSUV SENATE:

Sec. 1. of By-law 650.01 is to be added to read: “Campaigning as used in these codes

shall be defined as the use of any written or verbal presentation containing the name of or
referring to any candidate or ballot issue. The Vancougar or any presentation contained within
the free speech area is exempt from this definition.”

STATEMENT OF FACT:
An ongoing issue with ASWSUV campaigns has been the ability to circumvent campaign
restrictions to afford certain candidates advantages above other candidates. This would allow for
a cordial and civilized environment during election campaigns and would prevent the
exploitation that would allow a candidate to exploit the leeway afforded by this by law.
Expanding this bylaw would still grant the elections board to make a case by case decision
concerning related violations while preserving the integrity of the election and not impeding the
students ability to participate.
