Subject: Retirement

With joy, and maybe a little sadness, I wish to announce my intent to retire as of March 31, 2016. I
cannot believe how quickly thirty five years have passed since coming back to Irving to work as a Senior
Assistant City Attorney. What a privilege it has been to serve the wonderful people of this great city
through decades of growth and change.

Please accept my thanks for the opportunity to have served this Council and the City staff as the City
Attorney. I feel particularly blessed to have had the chance to build one of the great municipal law
departments in the state of Texas, and I can say that all the members of this department are truly
exceptional. Thank you for your support in this building process.

As I look back over what can only be termed a career, it was so interesting to see and to have some
small part in the major economic development deals, in the litigation large and small and in the human
resources issues. Even more interesting was getting to know 52 different council members, 8 mayors
and 4 City Managers. Certainly it was a benefit to the job that each day brought new and different
challenges. The largest blessing, though, will be the memories that I take with me of working with the
greatest people on earth!

Thank you again for the chance to part of this team that is the City of Irving and to be your legal counsel!
