Labeling Guidelines for Electrical Panels

1.

The first set of digits will consist of the six digit building number. (Example: 000001 =
Tillman Hall)

2.

The second set of digit(s) will represent the floor that the panel is located on.
a. SB = Sub Basement Floor.
b. B = Basement.
c. G = Ground Floor.
d. 1 = First Floor.
e. 2 = Second Floor.
f. 3 = Third Floor.
g. 4 = Forth Floor.
h. And so on per how many floors in the building.

The third set of digits will represent the voltage of the unit.
a. L = 120/208/240
b. H = 277/460/480

The third set of digit(s) will represent and then the majority of what is fed from this
panel with the exception of an emergency panel box which should only house
emergency type feeds.
a. E = Emergency Panel.
b. R = Receptacle Panel.
c. L = Lighting Panel.
d. PP = Power Panel.
e. DP = Distribution Panel.
f. MCC = Motor Control Center Panel.
g. SG = Switch Gear
h. SB = Switch Board
i. USS = Unit Sub Station (Combination of Main Transformer and Switch Board or
Switch Gear).

The forth set of digit(s) will represent the room type and number. If no room number
is available, a number can be assigned to that room by Barry Anderson. As
examples:
a. AT = Attic
b. E1 = Electrical Room Number 1.
c. E121 = Electrical Room 121.
d. MR3 = Mechanical Room Number 3.
e. TR34 = Telecommunications Room 34.
f. CR155 = Class Room 155
g. LAB244 = Lab Room 244
h. OF240 = Office Room 155
i. PC = Pipe Chase
j. MBR = Mens Bathroom
k. WBR = Womens Bathroom
l. CMP = Computer Room
m. STO = Storage Room
n. CUS = Custodial Room
o. HALL = Hall
p. SW = Stair Well

The last set of digits will represent how many panel boxes are in a particular room
numbered left to right as enter room from main entry (main entry may be subject to
naming personal which will be the standard for that room).
a. 01 = 1st panel box
b. 02 = 2nd panel box
c. Etc.

EXAMPLE:
000022 - 1 - L - E - MR#2-01
= Sirrine - 1st Floor - 120/208 - Emergency Panel - Mechanical Room # 2 First one in room on
left as enter room
