Family or Personal Circumstances

Family or Personal Circumstances Family or personal circumstances can be considered 'special


circumstances' where, due to unforeseen personal or family circumstances that are beyond your
control, it is impracticable for you to complete your studies or course requirements.
Examples include:

There has been a tragedy within your close family eg death and this has affected you to
the extent that you are unable to complete your studies or course requirements.

Due to unforeseen circumstances your familys financial position changes and this has
affected you to the extent that you are unable to complete your studies or course
requirements.

You are in a situation whereby a family member suffers from a severe medical condition
to the extent that you are required to provide full time care and this has affected you to
the extent that you are unable to complete your studies or course requirements.

Where due to unforeseen circumstances you are affected by a natural disaster eg, flood,
earthquake, tsunami, fire, and this has affected you to the extent that you are unable to complete
your studies or course requirements.

employment/Work-related Circumstances

Employment/work-related circumstances can be considered 'special circumstances' where due to


unforeseen circumstances your employment status or employment arrangements changed beyond
your control, to the extent that you are unable to complete your studies or course requirements.
Examples include:

You are in a situation where your employer increases your hours and you are unable to
object with the result that you are unable to complete your studies or course
requirements.

You are in a situation where after the census date your employer directs that you be
transferred to another state or country and you are affected to the extent that you are
unable to complete your studies or course requirements.

What is acceptable evidence?


Acceptable evidence includes the following:

Letter from your employer notifying of your change of conditions including the date the
change has taken effect.

Letter from your employer stating that you have been disadvantaged by the changing
arrangements to the extent that you are unable to complete your studies or course
requirements.

Note: It will not be considered circumstances beyond your control and your fees will not be
refunded if you elect to:

Increase your work hours e.g. permanent or overtime

Undertake additional employment e.g. a second job
