U.S. HOUSE
ABOUT PAULA
Growing up on her family's farm north of Flandreau, Paula helped with the cattle and the hogs, baled hay, and harvested corn and
beans with her sister and brothers. The '80s farm crisis hit her family hard but they kept the farm intact, though not without
experiencing serious financial hardship. Her family's struggle gave Paula a deep understanding and respect for the incredible
dedication and hard work it takes to make ends meet in South Dakota.
Paula followed her father 's and sister's footsteps and earned a degree from South Dakota State University, while working part time
as a nursing assistant at a nursing home in Brookings. She met her husband Steve at SDSU and they were married during their last
year at State. After the birth of their first child, Paula spent 10 years teaching at West Central High School while also earning a
master's degree in Technology for Education and Training from the University of South Dakota.
Paula left the classroom in 2012 and was elected to the State Legislature, where she worked diligently for constituents of District 9,
and for all of South Dakota. Now Paula is running for the U.S. House because she believes it is imperative to restore opportunity
and fairness throughout our system of government.
Paula, her husband and three children, Ruby ( 15), Tristan ( 11) and Amelia (5), live in Hartford and are members of Christ
Lutheran Church.

South Dakotans are pragmatic voters who consider independence and putting South Dakota first to be paramount qualities in
their elected officials. There are notable pockets of progressive voters in a number of counties of the state, and Paula and her allies
will work to aggressively register and turn out voters in those areas.

--U.S. HOUSE
I am running for the U.S. House because I believe the people of South Dakota need and deserve a
strong voice in Congress that fights on their behalf each and every day.
America is filled with unlimited possibilities. But t hose possi bilities are being blocke9 at every t urn. It
is time for, we the people, to get rid of the obstructionists in Washington who only seem to know
fear, negativity and the word no. It is time to end the political games, it is time to end the political
scorecard, it is time for the children to stop picking up their toys and storming off when they don't
get their way. It is time to get to work.
South Dakota has one voice in the U.S. House. That voice needs to be above political games and
partisanship. That voice needs to build consensus. And that voice needs to get work done for South
Dakotans.
I am running for the U.S. House because South Dakota needs a strong voice in Congress, a voice that
stands up and fights for middle class South Dakotans. I will be that voice and I am ready to fight for
what I believe in. I hope you will join me.
