One 6 month old brown dachshund (my puppy), one 6 month old black dachshund (my father’s puppy), and one colder black dachshund (my father’s dog). Our dogs were in a fenced in backyard with all of my family, and the oldest dog was chained. ‘The tvo puppies were playing inside the fence, At around 6 p.m. the mother dog was taken off the chain for exercise & food, All three dogs got out of the fenced area and went missing. When we discovered they were missing, we all started calling them, walking the neighborhood and asking neighbors, if they had seen the dogs. My little brown dachshund came home, Several of us at the cook-out heard a gun shot sound. My father, ‘Max Tillman, got in his track and drove around the neighborhood calling for his dogs. As hours past my parents asked me to continue searching, since they had to go home. My parents live at Lake Seminole in Georgia. Later that night my father called my house around 9:15 p.m. and told me he had a message on his answering machine. ‘The message was from a Mrs. Gregory, and she said she had our dogs. He gave me Mrs. Gregory's number. I called right after my father and Tung wp. When Mrs Gregory answered the phone, I explained who I was and inquired about our dogs. Mrs. Gregory caid to me, So, the two black dogs are yours. I said, yes. Mrs. Gregory told me that our dogs had dosroyed and killed her 21 year old cat, T apologized to her and told her I was deeply sony. Mis. Gregory said to me, that’s ok because we've shot and killed your dogs. Although her statement was very shocking to me, I told her that I understood, 1 again told Mrs. Gregory how sorry I was for what had happened. [oid Mrs. Gregory that T wouid cali my father and expiain to him what has happened. Mas. Gregory then stated that she was glad our dogs were dead because her sox: was devastated with what he had scen. Mrs. Gregory changed her story, and said that one of our geverses dogs was wounded, but ran off. J asked her what direction did the dog go. Mis. Gregory said she 4 not know and did not care. 1 stated to her that hoped she Found justice, but before I could finish she hung up the phone. then called my father back to explain to him what Mrs. Gregory told me, He requested that I call her back and ask if we could please have our dead dogs body. I called the Gregory house and asked to speak to Mr. Gregory. When he got on the telephone, I told Mir, Gregory that my father understood the situation, but would ike to have our dog’s body. Mr. Gregory said that the knew that we did not send our dogs to ki his cat, and it was not our faut. While talking with Mr. Gregory, Twanied to make a point with him about animals and the fact that they Kil 1 told hhim that ike other animals cats kill 100. Hlowever, Idd say to him that T understand that he was ‘psot about his cat. Tasked Mr. Gregory for our doa’s body again. Mr. Gregory sad that both dogs were dead and he did not have the bodies. Then I heard Mrs, Gregory on another telephone say to me that one dog, an off and was left in the woods fo die, and the other dog was dead in the woods, Mr. Gregory said that he was not sure, but he fet thal they were both dead. 1 told Mr Gregory that his wife had told me that onc dog wa8 wounded and your teling me that they both are dead. Which isi? Are they both dead or is one dead? Mr. Gregory sad that they were both cad, Tthen asked Mr, Gregory if he was Adam Grogory’s father, He said, yes, T1old him Iwas Laura Lee Stone’s mother, and reminded him that ‘he had call me a while back about the now: school zone in our neighborhood. 1iold him that I thought he was a nice man. I then told him that Twas only asking for the dogs bodies so that we could have closure on this situation. Mr. Gregory interrupted me and told me that one of the dogs was dead and the other one ran, off in the woods, Ltold him that I would not bother him anymore {called my father back after my conversation with Mr, Gregory, ‘My father asked me to call the Sherifl’s office, and ask if the Sheriff could retrieve our dog’s bodies: for us. Afier I got off the telephone with the Sheriff's office, I went to my back door to call the dogs. I did not know at the time which dog was alive. Jt tured out tobe the oldest dog at my back door sith gun shots in it's body. Right about the same time, a deputy (Jef) anrived at my house, It was around 11 p.m. ‘The deputy called the ‘animal emergency hospital for me. While T took the dog to the ‘hospital, the deputy said he would go over to the Gregory's house to got the 6 month old PUPPY and to find out what happened ‘When J got home from the hospital, 1 called the deputy, ‘The deputy told me he had the puppy, andit was dead, ‘The deputy ssid thatthe Gregory's told him that they had been out to dinner, and when they arrived home the dogs were in their garage. The deputy: said the Gregory’s found their cat dead, and they decided to get pillow eases to put the dogs inside to kill them. The deputy stated the Gregory's did not see our dogs kill their cat. {would tke to say that Ido understand the hust a person feels when they lose 8 beloved. pet, and my family and Tare deeply sorry iPour dogs in fact Killed ‘their eat, However, Ian not comprehend why the Gregory's continued to ell me diferent stories over tho telephone about our dogs, Even with Mr, Gregory stating 10 me that he knew we did not send our dogs to kill their cat, they both continued to fie about what happened. GREGORY DATE ARRESTED: CHARGES: CRUELTY TO ANIMALS SUMMARY OF OFFENSE AND PROBABLE CAUSE AFFIDAVIT ‘THE ABOVE NAMED DEFENDANT WAS ARRESTED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: On 25 May 98, Melita Stone, 1901 Sageway Drive, reported a cruelty to animals to the Leon County Sheriff's Department. Deputy J. Zondervan responded and conducted the following investigation. On the above date about 1100 hours Ms. Stones parents (Raleigh "Max" Tillman and Margaret Tillman) traveled from Donaldsonville Georgia to her home for Memorial Day. Mr. & Mis. Tillman also brought their «wo Dachshund dogs, one being an eight year old female (Cricket) and her six month old puppy (Lady). Both dogs were secured inside the fenced back yard at Ms. Stones home. Cricket the older Dachshund dog was also secured by a leash on the back patio during the visit. Sometime between 1700 and 1800 hours Mr. Tillman unleashed the older Dachshund dog so it could relicve itself before the travel back to Donaldsonville Georgia. Around 1830 hours Mr. & Mrs. Tillman were ready to leave so they called for the dogs. When the dogs did not return they and Ms. Stone went walking the neighborhood looking for the dogs but with no results. Mr. & Mrs. Tillman advised their daughter (Ms. Stone) that they were going home and when the dogs retumed for her to call them. Ms, Stone told deputy Zondervan that about 2130 hours she received a call from her father, telling her he had a recorded message om his telephone from a Ms. Gregory in Tallahassee (phone #562-1586) saying they had two black Dachshund dogs and for him to call her if they belonged to him. Mr. Tillman asked his daughter to call Ms. Gregory becatise if they had the dogs they probably wanted them picked up. Ms. Stone stated she called the phone number (562-1586) and spoke to a female who identified herself as Ms. Gregory. ‘Ms. Stone related that Ms. Gregory was very irate over the phone and told her they had shot and killed both dogs because the dogs Killed her cat. Ms. Stone stated Ms. Gregory told her that the small dog was dead and the other dog was wounded but ran off in the woods. Ms, Stone then called her father (Mr. Tillman) to let him know what happened. Mr. Tillman asked his daughter to call Ms. Gregory again and ask if the dead dog could be picked up. Ms, Stone cailed again but this time Mr. Gregory answered the phone. Mr. Gregory told Ms. Stone they had thrown the dead dog in the river. Ms. Stone then called her father back and told him what Mr. Gregory had said about throwing the dog in the river. Mr. Tillman then asked his daughter to call the Sheriff's Department and report the incident. Between the time the initial call came into the Sheriff's Office from Ms. Stone (2311 hours) and the time of Deputy Zondervans arrival (2317 hours), the wounded dog made its way back to Ms. Stones house. When Deputy Zondervan arrived Ms. Stone was in the process of bandaging the gunshot wounds so she could take the dog to the Northwood Animal Hospital. Deputy Zondervan gathered basic information from Ms. Stone concerning the incident and he responded to the Gregorys house while Ms. Stone went to the veterinary hospital. Upon Deputy Zondervans arrival at the Gregorys (2019 Wildridge Drive) he made contact with Albert Gregory and Beth Gregory. Beth Gregory stated that two dogs had killed her cat and they had killed one of the dogs and wounded the other. Deputy Zondervan usked where the cat was and Beth stated they had disposed of it. Albert Gregory related that he and his wife had went off for the evening and left their cat in the garage with the door partly open so the cat could go outside. Albert stated when they retumed home he saw the faces of two dogs in his garage, so he went info the house and entered the garage via the side door. Albert related when he entered the garage he saw the two small black dogs and his cat lying dead in the comer of the room. Albert stated Beth got two pillow cases from the house and he caught both dogs, placing them in the pillow cases. ‘Albert related they took the collar off one of the dogs and called the veterinarian that was on the tag in order to Jocate the owner. Albert stated that Beth obtained the information and placed a call to the Tillmans home and left a message on their answering machine. Albert related he then got his 12 gauge shot gun, took both dogs ‘behind his house and shot them. Albert stated he shot the small dog first with Buckshot and killed it ight away. He then shot the older dog with Birdshot and it started screaming, so he went back into the house to get a Buckshot to finish the job. Albert stated when he retumed to finish killing the other dog, it had gotten out of the pillow case and ran off into the woods. Deputy Zondervan asked where the dead dog was and Beth stated she threw it away but would not say where, ‘Albert then told Beth to tell Deputy Zondervan where she had disposed of the dog. Beth then told Deputy Zondervan that she had placed the Gog and pillow case in a plastic bag which was then put into a box and she threw it in a ditch at the dead-end of Faulk Drive. Doputy Zondervan responded to the area directed by Beth Gregory and there found the deceased dog just as Beth had stated (Note) The wounded older dog (Cricket) which escaped the execution was treated by Dr. Kevin Brumfield D.V.M. at the Northwood Animal Emergency Hospital during the night of 25 May 98. Releigh Tillman (ownet) picked up the dog on 26 May 98, and transported it to the Riverside Veterinary Clinic in Donaldsonville Georgia. As of this writing the dog has been released back to Mr. ‘Tillman after the wounds were treated and closed but leaving Shunt Tubes in the abdominal area for drainage of infectious fluids. Cricket is being treated by Dr. Cleve Bridge D.V.M. and it is believed that with due care she will live. ‘During the investigation nowhere did the Gregorys make any attempt to notify Law Rnforcement or Animal Control about the dogs killing there cat. It should be also noted that neither Deputy Zondervan nor this writer has seen any evidence of a cat being killed.
