About the

WORKSHOP

Although a majority of Indian commercial and residential structures

are being built the cast in place or in-situ mode, there is a growing
popularity for precast technology within the Indian construction
community. Precast construction technology is not new in India. It has
been adopted in India for the past several years, but was mostly limited
to Infrastructures such as tunnels, bridges and flyovers and underpasses.
However, until a decade back adoption of modern and innovative
constriction technology and practices by the Indian realty sector was
slow and therefore precast, though widely used across the globe for its
inherent advantages, did not catch the fancy of the industry.
Today, precast technology is making rapid inroads and is steadily
becoming an acceptable technology. There are several reasons for
why precast building technology is rapidly gaining prominence in the
Indian market. First of all, socio-economic development means that
the demand for affordable housing is increasing fast. Secondly,
government regulations are changing in such a way that they favor
precast because of its advantages compared to other building
techniques; it is affordable, fast, and safe. The schedules are always
tight in the construction business and precast makes it easier to stick to
project timelines and eliminate unexpected interruptions in work.
This workshop is designed to proactively update the participants with
the current practices in the Precast concrete buildings industry, the
Manufacturing techniques, the Design & codal provisions,
Transportation & erection techniques of precast elements etc. Also,
emphasis is given for addressing architectural precast concretes in
buildings too. Overall, the workshop aims to create awareness about
precast concrete buildings; its practices, possibilities, current challenges
facing the industry and the way forward for smoother integration of
this technology into the Indian building construction industry.
