FOREWORD

Bass players often contend they have been neglected because their
repertoire does not contain any sound practical \vorks \vhich they can use for
individuai practice, after having learn^d to play moderately well. For these
players th author has written this work, having actually devised ali th
exercises on th instrument itself.
To become acquainted with these exercises each one should be played
slowly at first. The player wil thus familiarise himself with th compass
reading, difficult or harmonic fingering and th art of breathing.

Haying

mastered thesc he can devote himself to th metronome tempi.

Some bass players have, in th author's exjxerience, shown little interest in
private practice, as th ordinary bass part is usually not very inspiring. These
studies should, therefore, prove an interesting pastime for any player of
ordinary ability.
