One substance is changing to another substance
Substances that start a chemical reaction are called reactants.
Substances that are produced in the reaction are called products.
ReactantsProducts
What is Happening?
This happens because bonds break and form new ones!
Water
Example of Chemical
Reaction = Formation of
Water

2 Atoms = Hydrogen (H)
and Oxygen (O)
Bonds holding the Oxygen
and Hydrogens break and
connect together
Atoms
The Basics
The Rundown:
The building blocks of atoms are protons, neutrons, and electrons.
The Protons and Neutrons are stuck together in which is called the
Nucleus, or the center part of the atom.
Electrons flow in the electron cloud (drawn on the rings of an
atom)

Molecules:
Atoms join together and form molecules

Discussion Questions:
What does an atom look like?
What are its different parts?
What is a molecule? How do they form?
What questions do you still have?
Summarize what you have learned.
STATES OF MATTER!!!
What is matter?
Matter is anything and everything around you
What is matter?
Matter is anything and everything around you
There are 3 states of matter: Solid, Liquid, and Gas
Solids:
All the molecules are packed together tightly: they are vibration and
cannot move
Ex:
Liquids:
The molecules in liquids can move around and slide past each other
Ex:
Gases
Move freely, have a lot of space in between molecules
It is harder to see gases
Ex:
Change of state
When enough heat is added, solids can turn to liquids and liquids can
turn to gases
Change of state
When enough heat is added, solids can turn to liquids and liquids can
turn to gases
Solid Liquid = Melting
Liquid Solid = Freezing
Solid Gas = Sublimation (Ex: Dry Ice)>
