Bailey Lake
Families,
Our last Love and Logic Parent Night will
take place Monday, Feb. 8 from 7:00-8:30
PM. Please feel welcome to attend even
if you did not attend other sessions. As a
parent of two teenage daughters, I have found these discussions informative
and left with productive approaches to fostering a positive relationship.
Congratulation to our BLE 2016 Geography Bee Champion, Andrew Floros.
Andrew will represent BLE, competing regionally against other elementary school winners in
hopes to advance to the state tournament.
Drop-off/Pick-up Reminder: Please be cautious and careful during these times. The safety
and welfare of our students is a top priority. Please take a defensive driving approach while
in the school parking lot. Please also drop off your student(s) in the zone between the side
door and bike racks. Up to eight vehicles can drop off at one time. It is not necessary to
pull up all the way to the front of the car line to exit the vehicle.
Recess Reminder: Please continue sending warm clothing to school with your
child for daily recess. Hats, gloves, boots, and snow pants are recommended.
Students will be outside on days when the wind chill factor (feels like
temperature) is above zero degrees. Lastly, please remember to use the
attendance line when your child will not be
attending school. The automated system is available
24 hours a day at 248-623-5390.
Sincerely,
Glenn Gualtieri, Principal

and water safety. Stations will be delivered by health experts from the community
with a focus on what kids can do to live healthy. To get your kid(s) ready for Theme

Thank you to everyone who supported the Bailey
Lake Book Fair! We had another year of astounding
success. The Fair brought in $13,893, resulting in
$8500 going directly back into our library!
Thank you for taking the time to shop with us. A
very special thank you to all the volunteers who set
up the fair, broke it down, helped our students create
wish lists and shop, and made the mornings of Donuts with Dad run so smoothly. We couldnt have
done it without your help. See you next year!

A Game Plan for Parents

Step 1:

Maintain a positive relationship around your childs

strengths and interests.
I noticed you like to draw.

Step 2:

Greet your child each day and evening with positives,

instead of negatives.
Great to see you! (Instead of, Do you have homework?)

Step 3:

Use empathy as a tool for preventing resentment and

power struggles.
What a bummer. How are you going to pay for that window?

Step 4:

Focus heavily on creating healthy beliefs about

achievement.
You got an A on that spelling test. How did you do that?

Step 5:

Step 6:

Replace lectures and warnings with Enforceable

Statements.
I provide allowance to kids who treat me with respect.
Become a master of at neutralizing arguments.
I love you too much to argue.

Step 7: Teach your child to make regular contributions to family

(i.e. chores) without reminders.
I love you too much to nag and remind you about helping. I hired someone
else to do it. How are you going to pay that person?
Step 8:

Use delayed consequences to buy yourself time and

prevent explosions.
Im going to have to do something about this, but not now, later.
Try not to worry about it.

Step 9:

Expect your child to repay you for deance, disrespect, etc.

Being lied to really drains my energy. How are you planning to put
that energy back?
