Deacons:

Dear Friends in Christ,

Father, may I attend my friends wedding at a
non-Catholic Church? Of course, you should attend their
wedding. Should I go to Communion? No. While
Catholics are encouraged to visit other Christian places
of worship, we should refrain from receiving
communion, even if invited. The Bishops of the United
States have directed that:

We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the

Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common
baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw
us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which
separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in
keeping with Christ's prayer for us "that they may all be one"
(Jn 17:21).Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the
Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and
worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet
fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion.
Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians
requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan
bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 4).
The Second Reading from St. Paul reminds us that we are one in
Christ: For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one bodyNow the body
is not a single part, but many. You are Christs body, and individually parts
of it. Today ends the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The Week of
Prayer for Christian Unity began in 1908 as the Octave of Christian Unity,
and focused on prayer for church unity. The dates of the week were
proposed by Father Paul Wattson, cofounder of the Graymoor Franciscan
Friars. Pope Pius X officially blessed this, and Benedict XV "encouraged its
observance throughout the entire Roman Catholic Church." Two decades
after Pius Xs acceptance it was embraced by Protestant leaders in the
United States and Europe.
Locally, St. Josephs Church welcomed the Old City Flower
Festival. Local churches in Macon created flower displays at St. Josephs in
honor of Christian Unity Week. A special thank you goes out to Pamela
Jordan. Pamela made a beautiful arrangement at the Altar of Our Lady on
behalf of St. Peter Claver. It was a wonderful statement from our
parish. Also, thank all of you for your generous support of the 2015 BAA.
At closing we surpassed our goal by almost one thousand dollars reaching
102% of our goal. Your generous gifts support important diocesan
ministries.
Pax et Bonum

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Congratulations!
Malaya Latrice Phillips
and
Kassidy Marilyn Phillips
were baptized on
January 16, 2016.
Welcome to our
Catholic Family.

When he announced this Jubilee Year of Mercy,

Pope Francis highlighted todays Gospel episode,
in which Jesus proclaims in his hometown synagogue his Spirit-anointed mission to fulfill the
promises of the prophet Isaiah. Jesus mission then, says Pope
Francis, is our mission now as Jesus disciples this Jubilee Year of
Mercy: to bring glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives, recovery
of sight to the blind, freedom to the oppressed, and to proclaim a
year acceptable to the Lord, a year of Gods mercy. Pope Francis
challenges us to translate Jesus mission to contemporary needs:
to console by word and deed those materially or spiritually poor,
to liberate those bound by modern societys new forms of slavery,
to open the eyes of those blinded by their own self-interest, and
to restore human dignity to all those from whom it has been stolen.
To act with mercy in a spirit of joy!

2015BAA Update
February 2, 9, 16, 2016
The talks will continue Tuesday, February 2nd, at 5:45 pm in the
Social Hall. Potluck dinner followed by Fr. Franks course.
Please bring a covered dish.
Pedro Arrupe, a former leader of the Jesuits, said: If there
is hunger anywhere in the world, then our celebration of the
Eucharist is somehow incomplete . In the Eucharist we receive
Christ hungering in the world. He comes to us, not alone, but with
the poor, the oppressed, the starving of the earth. Through him
they are looking to us for help, for justice, for love expressed in
action. Therefore we cannot properly receive the Bread of life
unless at the same time we give the bread of life to those in need
wherever and whoever they may be. The compelling need to
complete the Eucharist with some form of ministry to others has
always been a tradition in the Church.
Come join us February 7th, for the sixth of our eight
course series on the Eucharist. Feel free to come to 1 course or as
many as possible. Come and learn, question and deepen our understanding of who we are as a Eucharistic community.
ALL ARE WECOME!!!!

As of January 21st, we have received $15,015 of the $19,100

pledged commitments. In addition to the pledges, we received a
one-time payment total of $21,490. The combined amounts of
paid pledges of $15,015 and one time payments of $21,490, bring
us to a total paid balance of $36,505, as reported in the bulletin.
We have a remaining pledge balance due of $4,085. The amount
paid, $36,505, and the pledges due, $4,085, would place us at a
total of $40,590, over our $39,607 goal. If you havent completed
your pledge, please forward it as soon as possible. Thank you for
your faithful commitments.

MINISTERIO HISPANO

Debo ir a

A quines puedo identificar

Family Advancement
Ministries needs your
help!
As the weather gets cooler, the
families we serve need warm clothes for
their young children. We would appreciate donations of boys
clothes, sizes 12 months to size 10; and girls clothes, size 2
through size 8. We are especially in need of pants for boys (and
girls too).
If you do not have gently used clothes to donate and
would like to help otherwise, we suggest diapers sizes 4 and 5
and pull ups. Thank you for helping those in our community who
need our assistance.

Mission Statement
St. Peter Claver Church is a multicultural
and well-integrated Catholic Parish graced
with the gift of Gods presence. Together
as church we form a faith community where
no one just adds up to the number but
everybody is important because we cherish
the potency and gift of everyone. It is our
desire to constantly nourish our faith in the
soil of Gods Word and at the table of the
Eucharist, to be a credible witness of Gods
presence in the world and each others
companion on our journey of faith.
