THE SECRET SIGN

QUESTION: Where shall we eat the Passover?

Peter and John sent. Told to look
for a man carrying water.

WATER IN JESUS TIME! This
was the secret sign.
Jesus may have arranged it ahead
of time, unknown to the
disciples. Or it could have been a
word of knowledge.

JESUS WASHES HIS

DISCIPLES FEET

FOOT WASHING CONT.

Jesus gets up during the supper, or just before
(perhaps after the opening prayer, at the time for
hand washing)
He lays aside his garments, and take the role of a
servant.
Only Peter protests. But when told that if he does
not accept it, he will have no part in Jesus, he asks
for a bath!
Jesus tells him only his feet need washing.
Jesus predicts Judas betrayal.

MEANING OF THE FOOT

WASHING
We need to have our feet washed spiritually
after we have been out in the world.
We are to follow Jesus example in servant
leadership.
The command to wash one anothers feet
can be done literally but must be done
spiritually. That is, we help one another in
dealing with sin.

THE BETRAYER IDENTIFIED

Jesus reveals that one
will betray him, right
after the foot washing.
All of the disciples
deny it.
Peter asks John to ask
Jesus who it is. John
is told how to identify
him, but not the
others.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP
EMPHASIZED
The disciples didnt
get the point of the
footwashing. They
start arguing about
who is the greatest

Jesus examples.

JESUS PREDICTS PETERS

DENIAL FOR THE FIRST TIME
Peter declares he will
die for Jesus.
Jesus tells him he will
deny him 3 times
before the cock crows
once.

THE PASSOVER CHANGED

TO THE LORDS SUPPER
Jesus comes to the part of the Passover
ceremony where the bread is broken. He
changes it to signify his body which was broken
for us.
He changes the meaning of the cup to
symbolize his blood.

THE
PASSOVER

The highlight of Passover is the Seder,

observed on each of the first two nights of
the holiday. The Seder is a fifteen-step
family-oriented tradition and ritualpacked feast.
The focal points of the Seder are:
Eating matzah.
Eating bitter herbsto commemorate the
bitter slavery endured by the Israelites.
Drinking four cups of wine or grape
juicea royal drink to celebrate our
newfound freedom.
The recitation of the Haggadah, a liturgy
that describes in detail the story of
the Exodus from Egypt. The Haggadah is
the fulfillment of the biblical obligation to
recount to our children the story of the
Exodus on the night of Passover.

THE LORDS
SUPPER
Not a holiday, it is not nationality driven
but faith drive.
The focal points of the Lords Supper are:
Eating bread- to remember Christs death
Drinking wine or grape juice to remember
Christs death.
A time of confession and surrender to the
Lord.
When we examine ourselves, we often
find sin. This is normalit is not a reason
to avoid the Lords Supper. It is simply a
reminder that we need Jesus in our lives.
Only he can take our sins away.(2)

TO REPEAT IT UNTIL JESUS COMES
