Trial was illegal because it was at night and not in the proper place and the entire Sanhedrin was not present. This trial was clearly about trying to trap Jesus into a confession that would put him worth of death. 3rd TRIAL BEFORE THE ENTIRE SAHEDRIN Jesus is asked to repeat his testimony.

(John 18:13-24) (Pre-trial- not official and not legal.) Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas. Annas had been the high priest, but deposed by the Romans who didnt want hereditary priest. Still considered the real high priest. Annas was one of the men who controlled all those money changers and sellers of animals that Jesus became so angry about. (Matthew 21:12 & John 2:15) Jesus questioned by Annas. Jesus says everything was done in the open. (This implies that Jesus wasnt trying to undermine the Jews because nothing was secret.) Jesus won this argument so Annas stopped questioning him. Jesus is sent, bound, to Caiaphas.
2ND TRIAL OF JESUS BEFORE CAIAPHAS AND
SANHEDRON AT CAIAPHAS HOUSE (Mark 14:53; Matt. 26:57; Luke 22:54; John 18:24)
Caiaphas was the official high priest.
Trial was illegal because it was at night and not in the proper place and the entire Sanhedrin was not present. This trial was clearly about trying to trap Jesus into a confession that would put him worth of death. But hes unshakeable. The false witnesses could not agree with each other and could not even agree on Jesus own words. Jesus declares himself the Son of God (which is illegal unless its true) and so he is convicted of blasphemy. Jesus is illegally beaten.
3rd TRIAL BEFORE THE ENTIRE
SAHEDRIN Jesus is asked to repeat his testimony. Jesus tells them He will be seated at the right hand of God. This is just a sham of a trial meant to be legal. It would have taken place with all the leaders present and during daytime but it broke the law that said no man should be convicted by 2 trials 2 days in a row. http://www.abideinchrist.com/messages/mat26v57-68jewishtrialjesusbeforehighpriest.html
