Sweeping curriculum changes increase transferability

by Christian Tabak
Assistant Editor

Transition and adjustment have

become a regular part of campus life
with the ongoing renovation projects
and now students can expect same
changes in classes and degree programs. The colleges curriculum has
been undergoing revision to ensure
that all courses and programs are
better aligned with those of universities, and among these changes are
included new offerings within the
Humanities Division.
Were looking to maximize the
effectiveness of our programming to
help students succeed when they
transfer and transition into the
workforce, said Edmund Gert, Associate Dean of Humanities.
One of the additions to the divi-

sions already extensive line-up of

degree programs is the new Fine
Arts Associate in Arts with a new
emphasis in musical theater.
With emphasis in art, theater,
musical theater, music, photography
and music engineering and industry, the new degrees are designed to
better match-up with the programs
of four-year universities, said Professor of Theater Rick Nelson.
The embedded certificate program is another new feature that is
being introduced and the Humanities Division is currently offering at
least three: Spanish, German and
French.
These certificates are available
to students who complete classes
through the intermediate level and

provide nice additions to degrees,

Gert said.
Another offering the division is in
the process of designing is a certificate in leadership, Gert said. With
significant input from President
Emeritus James Cook, the certificate will include classes in creative
and servant leadership along with
basic leadership theories and principles.
The hope is that with all of these
updates, more than 1,000 pages
across all the divisions, our programs will much better match the
needs of students, Gert said.
For more information on classes
or degrees offered by the Humanities
Division, contact academic advisor
Jeff Conkin at 733-7999.

Editorial: 14th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

by Taylor Phillips
Editor-in-Chief

Sept. 11, 2001, was Americas darkest day. It was the day
that terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. This year is the
14th anniversary of the attack. The attack left America in a daze;
it was as if the world had stopped spinning.
I was 5 years old when the attacks happened, so I have very
little memory of that day. I remember waking up shortly after
the attacks happened. The news was on, everyone seemed to be
emotional. Being so young, I didnt really understand what happened or how it would affect us.
That day left a mark on everyones lives. It left some without
family, some without friends and some with the fear of what
might come next. Sept. 11 reminds us of how we came together
as a nation and how good can come from bad. Let us remember
those who lost their lives that day and those who fought to keep
us safe 14 years ago.

What clubs do you wish Rose State had?

Aylin Perez

Courtney Anderson

Marietta Corona

Kourtney Brown

Lauren King

Id be very interested in a salsa

contest club. Everyone makes salsas and we let the
students judge,
then we play with
water balloons.

Dance Club.

I think it would
be great to have
a dance club,
fencing or maybe
even an art club.

Disc Golf Club.

Itd be great to
see an international ministry to
make international students feel
more welcome on
campus.
