BRIEF HISTORY

Speculation suggests that production began


sometime after 2000 B.C. in South Asia.

Thereafter, during the Iron Age, blacksmiths


produced wrought iron.

By the late Middle Ages, European iron makers


had developed the blast furnace to produce cast
pig iron.
