Students to be taught the fundamental skills required for both
a overhead mark and a chest mark. Explain the advantages of
each mark and where they are best suited e.g overhead high
ball, chest mark for a low ball
KTPS (over head)
W motion performed with hands
EYES ON THE BALL
Take mark at the highest point

KTPS( Chest mark)

Hug the bear motion
EYES ON THE BALL
Get students into partners where they will practice the skill of
both marks first by handballing and then progress to a kick

Marking 2 (b)
After a period of time where students start to become
confident with their marking ability teach the students how to
lead to the footy and perform a mark
KTPS
Run toward the ball carrier calling the ball carrier name
The ball carrier will kick the ball to the student who is leading
Determine by the height and speed of the kick which type of
mark needs to be performed
Remember all the previously taught KTPS about marking
Students to go into partners and practice their marking with
the aid of leading
Spoiling
Students to be taught how the use of a spoil can be used in
football to stop a opponent taking a mark
KTPS

Clenched fist
Thumb to be on the outside of the fist not tucked in
EYES ON THE BALL
Strike the footy as if you were going to punch it
Follow through straight
Get students into partners where they can handball to each
other and practice spoiling with the aid of the KTPS mentioned
above.
1 v 1 leading attacker vs defender
Teacher to nominate 3 or 4 students to be designated kickers.
The rest are to be put into partners with 1 to be the attacker
which will lead at the ball carrier and try to mark it using the
KTPS mentioned and 1 to be the defender using the KTPS for
spoiling mentioned.
Students to swap roles after 3 attempts for example attacker
will become defender and vise versa.

Lesson 4
Dynamic warm up 1
Students to complete a warm up with cones divided 20 meters
long by 10 meters wide
Students to complete various dynamic warm up exercises that
have been previously taught to them
Including Run throughs, Side to side, Jump in the air, Touch the
ground and grape vine
After about 5 minutes students to be given 3 minutes to
complete any individual warm up exercises they may need to
feel ready for the lesson.

Students to be put into groups of three with equal ability if possible.
Students to form a triangle shape 20 meters apart. Can spread
further if needed
Students to kick to other members in triangle motion
Leading to be implemented where students runs torward the
ball carrier
KTPS taught from previous lessons on marking, kicking and
leading to be implemented
Bouncing (2)
Students to be put into partners where they will have 1 football
between them. All students will form a straight line about 40 meters
wide. Explain why a bounce needs to be introduced in a game of
football every 15 minutes and the KTPS
KTPS
For a bounce Hold ball slightly on top using preferred hand
Guide the ball to the ground ( dont throw from waist height)
When guiding ball your arm should hinge and then straighten
allowing ball to hit a point where it will bounce back up.
Get students to practice bouncing with their partner walking in
a straight line

Students to bend down with the hand they are using to pick it
up
Students to scope their hand underneath the footy from a side
on view ( a affective way to teach this is to tell the students
to try get grass clippings underneath their finger nails
Have students practice this skill. Reinforce the KTPS

Shepherding Technique (4)

Students to be put into pairs where the skill of Shepherding will be
explained
KTPS
Can only peform on a opponent if 5 meters away from the ball
Bend your knees and outstretch arms
Have Feel of opponent behind you
If you feel them move in a direction adjust so you can prevent
the opponent from getting past you
Students to practice this technique on each other.
2 vs 1 (5)
Students to be placed into groups of 3 with 1 student to hold a
football, 1 be known as the shepherder and 1 trying to tag the
student holding the football
Studnets to stay within a 5 meter radius of eachother
Student who is shepherding is trying to protect the student
with the football using the KTPS mentioned earlier
After 1 minute swap roles so every student has a turn at each
role
