Surface Mount Technology (SMT):

Is the method of constructing Electronic Circuits in whichthe components (
Surface mounted components ( SMCs))
are mountd directly onto the surfaceof printed circuit boards (PCBs). An electro
nic device so made is called a
Suface Mount Device(SMD).
In the industry it has largely replaced the
through hole technology constructionmethod
of fitting components with wire leads into hole in the circuit board.An SMT comp
onent is usually smaller than its through hole counterpart because it has either
smaller leads or no leads at all. It may have short pins or leads of various sty
les, flat contacts, amatrix of solder balls (BGAs), or termination on the body o
f the component.
