My Perfect World
In this activity, students write about and discuss how people must and mustnt behave in
their perfect world using the modal verbs 'must' for obligation and 'mustnt' for prohibition.
Before class, make one copy of the worksheet for each student.
Procedure
Explain to the students that they are going to invent a list of instructions for how they would
like people to behave in a perfect world.
Give each student a copy of the worksheet.
Ask them to complete the sentences. 'A good shop assistant must...' and 'A good shop
assistant mustnt...' in different ways according to how they would like people to behave.
Elicit some suggestions.
Examples:
A good shop assistant must always give you a discount.
A good shop assistant mustn't bother you when you are shopping.
Make it clear to the students that this is a light-hearted activity and encourage them to use
their imagination.
When everyone has finished writing, students go round the class and find other students
who have written the same instructions for their perfect world.
