Reference and Instruction Librarian

Reference: Providing in-person and IM research assistance across all course disciplines. Referring students needing specialized help to the appropriate subject librarian.
Instruction: Teaching upper division library and research skills sessions in Child and
Adolescent Development, Consumer and Family Studies, and Kinesiology. Taught 17
sessions in Fall 2015.
Library committee work: Unified Library Management System team lead (comittee
overseeing the transition from III to Ex Libris), Social Media committee, Library Education committee (refining and developing digital content such as instructional videos and
research skills tutorials, creating subject-specific Libguides), and faculty liaison to the
librarys Makerspace.
Subject liaisonship: Setting up one-on-one meetings with students, giving email
research assistance. Soliciting and considering book purchase requests for faculty in
my subject areas.
Collection development: Acquisition based on current SFSU courses, strengths and
weaknesses of the collection, and faculty requests. Setting up subject-based approval
profiles. Evaluating potential database subscriptions with colleagues.
Innovative Interfaces
Encore Systems Librarian
Emeryville, CA
Assisted libraries in maintaining and configuring the Encore discovery layer of their
integrated library systems.
Provided expert, friendly phone and email support for customers on a daily basis
Resolved issues including configuration, data syncing, and system failure as
reported by customers.

Collaborated with project group members to update a computer lab for Generations
of Hope, a daycare and community center in Rantoul, Illinois
Listened to the needs of the community in the lab redesign, communicated
regularly with community volunteers, and created usability documentation to
ensure the stability of the lab
Installed new hardware on lab computers, reconfigured the labs wireless internet
using OpenDNS, upgraded all computers to run Windows 7, repainted the lab and
installed new furniture

Summer 2011
Collaborated with a team of students to create a new interface for the website
library.aup.fr
Communicated regularly with Sally Murray, AUPs Web and E-Resources Librarian,
to ensure the redesign met the needs of the library
