Resolution to Commission an Intellectual Property Rights Task Force

A resolution to commission and legitimize an Intellectual Property Rights Task Force as an initiative of the Sanggunian to protect
the students intellectual property rights.

Whereas, the Sanggunian, recognizing the rightful and vital role of the Filipino youth in national efforts to
advance and preserve freedom and democracy shall raise the Ateneo student bodys critical awareness of and
proactive response to issues and their root causes affecting the lives of the Filipino people.1
Whereas, the Sanggunian believes in a quality Jesuit education that is humanistic, ethical, liberal, critical, and
creative.2
Whereas, the Sanggunian shall protect the academic rights and welfare of the Students;3
Whereas, the Sanggunian Central Board SY 2012-2013 has released a stand4 and the School of Humanities
School Board has passed both a stand5 and a resolution6 regarding the protection of Intellectual Property Rights
of artists, calling for academic integrity among the students and vigilance in spotting and reporting such cases;
Whereas, these resolutions, while they reassert the Sanggunians stance on the matter, do not offer concrete
plans of action for regulating and addressing violations against Intellectual Property Rights;
Whereas, the Central Board has the power to create departments, committees, stas, task forces, and oces as
may be necessary to discharge specific functions of the board;7
Whereas, task forces reserve the right to create subcommittees as recommended by the Task Force head;
Wherefore, be it resolved that the Central Board, through this resolution, will commission an Intellectual
Property Rights Task Force to establish rules and regulations for the protection of the students intellectual
property rights;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Intellectual Property Rights Task Force shall be called IPRTF;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Central Board shall release a call for applications for the position of
the IPRTF head within thirty (30) days of the approval of this resolution, which will last for a week and will be
open to all Loyola Schools undergraduate students, upon the approval of this resolution;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the Central Board shall deliberate upon the applicants and appoint one to
be the head by a simple majority vote;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that this head must be in his/her third year of undergraduate studies in the
Loyola Schools, or higher;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that in the event that the replacement of the head becomes necessary, the

process and the appointment of the new head shall be up to the discretion of the Central Board;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the IPRTF shall release a call for delegation of its core team within thirty
(30) days of the appointment of the IPRTF head;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the IPRTF shall be consulting with administrative offices, design ethics
and legal professionals, the Council of Organizations, other student groups and stakeholders and the
constituents on the parameters and definitions for violations of intellectual property rights;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the IPRTF shall craft and pass a bill regarding the revision of existing rules
and regulations according to the results of the consultations;
Wherefore, be it further resolved that the IPRTF shall take measures to ensure that these revised rules and
regulations will be properly implemented in the Loyola Schools;
Wherefore, be it finally resolved that, with the approval of the Central Board by a simple majority vote, this
resolution shall take effect immediately.
