HiGuys
I'mconvertingandold9kg(20lb)gasbottleintoafurnace.
IthinkIwillusea#6cruciblesize(41/25indiameter)allbeithomemadefrom
steel.
IfthisistherightsizethenhowmuchgapdoIleavebetweenthecrucibleandthe
refractorysidesforefficientheatingandcircularhotairflow?
Thisisforagasfiredfurnace.

Ihavereadthatrefractorymakesaprettypoorinsulator,soIwasgoingtolinethe

insideofthat.Therefractoryisthecommercialstuff.

AlthoughIdoonlyintendtodoaluminumatthisstage,theinfowouldbegoodfora
largerfurnacelateraswell.
ThequestioncomesaboutbecauseifIusethecorrectcombustiongapthiswilldeem
thefinalcruciblesize.
ps.Thegasbottlehasa12inchdiameterandis11incheshigh(although11/2inches
ofthatwillbethelid).Iwasplaningtoputa3inchexhaustholeinthetop.No
thoughtsontheburneryet.
