School Year 2014-2015: Courses initially taught at East High School


Drawing and Painting 1, Drawing and Painting 2, and Art Craft. Following resignation of
colleague, courses taught changed to Drawing and Painting 1, Drawing and Painting 2,
Portfolio Development, and AP Studio Drawing (30 portfolios submitted to College Board in
May).
School Year 2014-2015: Co-Sponsor East Chapter National Art Honor Society
School Year 2014-2015: Mrs. Sawyer serves as Art Department teacher leader on the Denver
Public Schools SLO (Student Learning Objective) steering committee
May 2015: Attended Flora Bowley Bloom True Intensive Painting Workshop, Portland, Oregon

May 2014: East Permanent Gallery selections by my students: Isabelle Laursen, Ben Cooper,
and Caroline Berzins

May 2015: 4th Annual East Arts Walk

May 2015: Colfax Marathon Mannequin Display, Mannequins created by the East Chapter of
the National Art Honor Society and select student artists

May 2015: Personal artwork displayed at the Colorado Institute of Art as part of the show

May 2015: Student, Maya Ramirez honored for her artwork at the Art Students League of
Denver

May 2015: "Bringing Back the Arts", First Lady of Denver Art Show: Sam Thomas' artwork
selected for traveling show culminating at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver
May 2015: Colorado Art Education Association, Art For Us Workshop, Pastels

April 2015: Students creating hand drawings in the art class studio

Spring 2015: Mrs. Sawyer begins National Board Certification Process. Images of class
critiques and reflection of practice below

March 2015: National Art Education Association National Convention in New Orleans,
Louisiana. Youth Art Month display and flag from Colorado pictured in the YAM Museum.
Recognition ceremony for Pacific Region Secondary Art Educator of the year

March 2015: The National Art Education Association names Mrs. Sawyer the Pacific Region
High School Art Educator of the year at the NAEA convention in New Orleans, Louisiana

March 2015: Youth Art Month student show held at the Colorado State Capitol.
Proclamations obtained from Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor,
Michael Hancock

March 2015: Olivia Wischmeyer named Colorado Statewide High School Level flag design
winner as part of Youth Art Month

March 2015: Denver Public Schools Citywide High School Show at the Wellington Webb
Building, Denver Colorado
Students received Best of Show (Hannah Ghasemi) and First Place in Painting (Ben Cooper).
Student, Ben Cooper awarded $20,000 Scholarship to the Colorado Institute of Art

March 2015: The Denver Public Schools Board of Education proclaims recognition for Mrs.
Sawyer in honor of her state and national awards in art education
February 2015: Scholastics Art Awards (1 gold key, silver keys, and honorable mentions)

February 2015: Mrs. Sawyer named to the RAFT Colorado Teacher Advisory Board
January 2015: East High School Art Department Show in conjunction with the vocal music
department
