Thislabreportisaboutactionpotentialsandtheelectricalactivityinanormalcell
membraneenvironment,environmentsmodifiedbyvarioustoxinsandactionpotentials
observedinhumanreflexes.Inresponsetoastimulustheexcitablecellmembraneofaneuron
cellgoesfromarestingstatetodepolarization,followedbyrepolarizationtotherestingstate
again.Depolarizationoccurswithinaneuronwheresodiumionsenterthecellandraisethe
chargefromanegativetoapositiveleveladditionally,itisastateofreversaloftheresting
potential.Repolarizationoccurswhenthemembraneofaneuronbecomesmorepermeable,
whichallowspotassiumionstodiffuseoutoftheneuroncausingthemembranetoreturntothe
restingstate.Theperiodaxonscantbestimulatedtogenerateanewactionpotentialiscalled
therefractoryperiodwhichlimitsimpulsestoanaverageof100persecond.Thefollowing
