Thislabreportwilladdressanormalcellenvironmentwheretheactionpotentialoccurs
intheneurontriggerzonewhenthemembranepotential(electricalcharge)risesandfalls,the
neutronthensendselectricalimpulsedownanaxonawayfromthecellbodyanditwillalso
addresstheeffectsoftoxinsontheactionpotentialfollowedbycranialnerveandreflextesting.
Actionpotentialalsoknownasanerveimpulsesistheeventsofelectricalresponsethattakes
placeinacell,causedwhendifferentionscrossestheneuronmembrane.Thefirsteventinan
actionpotentialisdepolarizationwherethesodiumionschangefromanegativetoapositive
levelatthemembraneoftheneuron.Theeventafterdepolarizationknownasrepolarization,is
whenthecellrepolarizesitselfbyusingitssodiumpotassiumpumplocatedinthemembrane,
foreverythreesodiumionsitpumpsout,itpumpsintwopotassiumionsuntilthepropercharge
isreached.Duringtherefractoryperiod,whichlastaround1/2500ofasecond,theaxons
voltagegatedsodiumchannelsarenotresponsiveatall,andtheaxoncannotbestimulatedto
