InastoryreleasedbyJohannesburgnewspaperCityPress,CapeTownfarmer,AndreLaubscheralleged
thatWatkinTudorJonesa.k.a.Ninja,jackedDieAntwoordsstylefromagroupofstreetkidstowhom
heofferedshelteronhisfarm,byplyingthemwithdrugsandalcohol.
WaddyJonesshatteredtheboyslives,saidLaubscher.TheboysWangaJack,MzamoMzi,Aviwe
DikizaandChelvinEngelbrechtweremembersofahiphopcrewcalledTheGlueGangBoysand
stayedonLaubschersfarmontheslopesofTamboerskloof.
Waddy,nowknownasNinja,atthetimewentbythenameMaxNormal.TVandwasdatingagirlbythe
nameofAnriduToit,latertorebrandherselfasthehypersexual,foulmouthedpixierapstarYolandi
Visser.
Astudentatthetime,the19yearoldduToitwouldregularlystayonLaubschersfarm,introducingher
boyfriendJonestotheTheGlueGangBoys,withthepairstrikingupafriendshipwithmemberWangaJack
andtakingtheteenundertheirwing.
ButaccordingtoLaubscher,theirfriendshipwasntsowholesome.WaddyJonessuckedthewholeofDie
Antwoordoutoftheseboyshereonthisfarm,hesaid.Andtheywerevulnerable.Theywerethechildren
ofalcoholics.Sotocomeinhereandgivethemboozeanddagga.Thatsnoton.
[Jones]usedtocomehereandtalktousaboutourpastandwherewecomefrom,saidonemember.Ive
beentoprisontwice,andinprisonyoulearnthislanguageandtherearethese[tattoos]hewasobviously
lookingforthiskindofimageforhimself.
IntheCityPressreport,membersofTheGlueGangBoysallegethatDieAntwoordwouldseverely
underpaythemfortheirservicesasbackupdancersforDieAntwoordsliveshows,aswellasappearances
onsongsandinvideosforthem,withmemberWangaJackbeingparticularlyvocal.
Firstweweredancersforhim.AndthenIbecameaDJAndthensuddenlyIwroteasongwiththem,
saidJack.HewaspaidSA$100toperformataDieAntwoordgig,boostedto$200aftercomplainingtothe
band.Butpeoplewerepaying$250justtogetintotheconcert,hesaid.
JackalsoclaimedthatheisowedroyaltiesfromanappearanceontheDieAntwoordtrackEvilBoyaswell
asinthesongscontroversialvideo.Evenmoredamningly,JackclaimedtohavesignedacontractwithDie
AntwoordsthenlabelInterscopeRecordswhilestillunderage.
NowDieAntwoordhavesharedtheirsideofthestoryinaseriesofdispatchespostedtotheirofficial
Facebookpage,inwhichtheyclaimthatLaubschersnarrativeisuntrueandthathisstatementtothepress
arearesultofthenewsthatDieAntwoordaresettostarinaHollywoodfilm.
KsoherezdascoopaboutWangakids,theybegin.SoNinjametolandialoooooongtimeagoona
strangelittlefarminCapeTown.Nowonthefarmlivedacreepyoldmanwithbigbeardandfattummy
calledAndre.Andredidntownthefarm,hejustsquattedthere.
TheyallegethattheinhisfiftiesLaubscherwouldattempttowoothethen19yearoldYolandiVisserwith
lovelettersandrequeststotakenudephotographsofher.ItwasNinjawhofinallyconvincedYolandito
moveoffthefarmwhenWangashowedNinjaandYolandiasecretbox.
Insidethesecretboxwasacollectionofnudephotographsofgirlswhohadvisitedorstayedatthefarm.

DieAntwoordinsistthatitwastheirdiscoveryofthephotographspairedwithjealousyofthebandssuccess
thatinspiredLaubschersantipathytowardsthepair.
WhenthisrecentbignewhitthatthatNinjaandYolandiaregoingtobestarringinabighollywoodmovie,
somehaterslosttheirfuckinminds,theywrite.Andallofasudden,people(whowehavenothingtodo
with)startcrawlingoutthewoodworkwithallsortsofridiculousclaims.
TheyexplainthatLaubscherencouragedWangaJacktogotothepresswithacookedupstoryinwhichDie
Antwoordaredepictedasvillainsandcrooks.Instead,theyclaim,theyattemptedtoactasmentorstothe
youngJack,whotheydescribeasalostsoul,lookingfordirectioninlife.
DespondentoverbullyingfromlocalsinhismothersXhosa(residentsofsoutheastSouthAfrica)
neighbourhoodforhisfailuretoadheretotheirinitiationcustomsinparticularhisfailuretogetcircumcised
DieAntwoordwelcomedJackintotheircrew.
Together,thethreeproducedthetrackEvilBoy,whichspeaksoutagainstbarbaricXhosainitiationrights.
Jack,meanwhile,wasactingasbackupdancerandroadieforthebandsliveshows,whileNinjaattempted
toimpartlifelessonstotheteen.
HoweverconsistentunprofessionalismfromJack,suchasmissingaflighttoJohannesburgforaconcert,
arrivinglatetoappointments,andconstantpartyingledNinjaandYolanditoremovinghimfromthecrew,
sayingWangadidnottakethismusicstuffveryseriously.
ThebandclaimthatWangajustgotoutofPollsmoorPrisonrecently(forthe2ndtime),thendecidedtogo
tothepapers,andsayhowDieAntwoordexpoitedhim.ButoursweetlittleWangatwistedafewfacts
hereandthere,andalsoleftoutallthefunstuffinthisherenote.
Howeverthebandclaimthattheresnobadblood,sayingWestillloveWanga.Hesjustabitlost,and
gettingguidancefromthewrongpeopleAndifoneday,Wangasayssorrytousforbeingnaughtyand
tellingliesMaybewellevengivehimanotherchance.
