In one single unit DryCool handles all functions, such as heat recovery, heating and cooling - making it
one of the most flexible and energy efficient solutions available.
DryCool pre-treats the outdoor air before it is introduced into your building - creating a comfortable and
healthy indoor climate with no need of overcooling to control the humidity.

Eliminating need of heat sources

Compared to conventional air conditioning systems DryCool requires up to 65 % less energy.
The desiccant wheel in DryCool is regenerated by (free) condenser heat - one of the high-efficient features
making DryCool a perfect solution when looking for energy savings.
Thanks to the patented DryCool concept the system is completely flexible, optimizing also the energy
efficiency.
The system works as a stand-alone system or as a part of your existing air handlers or energy recovery
ventilators (ERV), treating from 2,000-27,000m3/h.

DryCool - How it works

Supply air stream

Outside air (1) enters the unit and is pre-cooled by either the
pre-cooling DX modules (DX1 or DX2 or combined) or by a
chilled water coil to reduce air temperature and absolute
humidity so the condition after the pre-cooling stages is
approximately 14C and 100% rh. (2)

After this first step, the air will enter the DryCool Module where the air
temperature & absolute humidity will be further reduced by the integral
evaporator coil (3).
The cool, wet air will then enter the Munters specially adapted rotor to
dehumdify this wet air further (4) and increase slightly the air temperature to
space neutral. The fan will then push the air to the supply air duct (5), into
the space.

Controls

The DryCool Dehumidification technology

combines the best of both worlds. First it will
start the dehumidification by the pre-cooling
DX coil. After bringing the air to total
saturation, it will then pass through the
Munters specially designed dehumidification
rotor, which will bring the air to room neutral
temperature and humidity below 50% RH

All DryCool modules are manufactured with

their integral controller. This controller has the
ability to control the modules as a stand a lone
unit, or can be utilized to control the AHU also.

Outside air or building exhaust (6) will enter the unit and will be heated up
by the Condensor coil to about 45C (7) so the DryCool is reusing its own
waste heat.
The Munters rotor will then regenerate itself with this hot air and the wet air
will be pushed out of the unit by the reactivation fan to the outside. (8)

Energy Recovery

Cooling

During winter time the DryCool module

can function as a energy recovery section. The
return air from the building will be recovered by
the DH-wheel running in heat recovery mode.
The wheel will work as a hygrostatic rotor,
recovering temperature as well as humidity

When the intake conditions are dry enough and

only cooling is demanded, the unit will then
function as a cooling only unit by using the pretreatment DX & chilled water coil or full DX
coils to cool down the intake air.

Expo 2010, Shanghai, China
Visitors to the swedish pavillion at Expo2010 experience
how comfort cooling by Munters creates conditions that is
sensed as less chilly compared to traditional airconditioning. The control of not only temperature but also humidity
makes the air more fresh and comfortable - saving energy at
the same time.
The climate in the swedish pavillion is kept at 24C and
50%RH by two Munters DryCool units, saving 30%
energy compared to a traditional cooling solution.
Sandvik, Rovereto, Italy
At Sandviks plant in Italy the temperature and humidity is
strictly controlled with Munters energy saving DryCool
unit.
Solid carbide end mills for metal cutting and HSS tools are
being produced by advanced CNC machinery, sensitive to
deviations in temperature and humidity.
With DryCool the climate is perfectly controlled around
the year, and in summer the chiller capacity need was reduced with 60% compared to a conventional ACI solution.
Cairns Base Hospital, Australia
When updating the existing AHUs at Cairns Base Hospital
three DryCool units were integrated into the hospitals
existing air handling system for 8 operating rooms.
The systems ensure effective and efficient heating and cooling
providing comfortably cooled air in the surgery rooms.
The DryCool units secured improved energy performance,
savings on ventilation humidity control and reheat resulting
in a payback time at only 2,5 year.
Supermarkets, USA and Japan
DryCool systems are perfectly designed to reduce indoor
humidity in supermarkets, like at COOP Net Foods Co.,
Japan. Walmart is the largest customer in the USA installing
these systems. DryCool systems provide a more pleasant
shopping environment and allow for operating costs
associated with display cases and refrigeration to be reduced
through the latent refrigeration load. Defrost cycles can be
reduced by as much as 50 percent per day because less frost
builds up at low humidity.

How long does a AHU run for 100 Euro ?

By comparing Munters DryCool System to other systems on the market, DryCool is up to 30% more
efficient than traditional energy recovery products with cool & reheat and up to 65% versus traditional
cooling & reheat.
(The figures are based on a yearly operation of the 20.000m/h units - all delivering the same set-point to the
buildings HVAC system.)
