Valentines Day
On Friday, February 11th, students will have the opportunity to
exchange valentines in the afternoon. If your child is giving valentines,
please ensure that he/she includes the entire class. The names are as
follows: Joshua, Keira, Emily, Katie, Brody, Ethan, Haden, Jaecob, Paige,
Sandra, Austin, Kaiden, Sadie, Amber, Glen, Bailey, Hunter, Andre,
Elijah, Marcus, Jacob.

Scholastic Book Orders

February book orders are due on or before February 11th. No late
orders will be accepted. If possible, please pay by cheque.

Skating
All students must wear a skating helmet (bike helmets are not
acceptable). If your child does not have skates or helmet and you
cannot get one for them, please notify me via your childs agenda that
you do not have the necessary equipment. I must be made aware at
least one day prior to the skating date so that we can attempt to suit
them up with skates / helmet from our selection at school. We may not
be able to accommodate all students who do not have their own
equipment, but will do everything possible to try to ensure all students
have the opportunity to skate.
Parent volunteers are needed to assist with the tying of skates. If you
are available to come and help get us started, we would be more than
grateful to have your assistance!

Student Learning

Math
We are starting our new unit on fractions this month. Students will be
learning to model and compare various fractions. I encourage students
to continue to practice math facts (ex. addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division) at home on a daily basis.

Language Arts
We will continue to focus on improving our writing skills throughout
February. Students will be learning and applying various techniques to
enhance their writing in order to captivate their audience.
In Reading, we will continue our chocolate themed novel studies. In our
novel study we will be completing chapter summaries, comprehension
questions, and other activities related to their group novels.

Social Studies
We have just started completed out unit on Tunisia and will be moving
on to studying Ukraine. In this unit we will again be examining the
quality of life, services, environment and customs and traditions in this
country.

Science
We are starting our new unit Testing Materials and Designs. In this unit,
we will be testing various materials to determine strength. We will also
be testing different thicknesses and shapes to determine what is the
strongest and most stable to build with.
Sincerely,
Miss Carnegie
