Question 1: Personal Opinions


Photography can be used to convey
opinions, feelings and ideas to the observer.
Henri Cartier-Bresson documented social
change, Martin Parr observe the British way
of life and Fay Godwin champion and the
need to protect the environment.
Explore a range of examples and create your
own work of the conveys your personal
opinions on the topic of your choice.

Question 2: Image and Text


The meeting or impact of an image
can sometimes be in enhance by the
addition of text. Mitra Tabrizan's 'The
Blues' series, Ralph Ueltzhoeffer's
portraits and Jenny Holzer's installations
are examples of different approaches.
Consider this topic, research relevant
examples and produce your own work
in which text is an integral part.

Question 3: The passing of time


Many photographers and filmmakers have
recorded the passing of time in various
ways. Some have explored this subject
through single images or combination of
images; others have produced a sequence
of images.
You might like to consider the work of
Alexey Titarenko, Andy Goldsworthy and
Eadweard Muybridge when making a
response.

Question 4: Mood and


atmosphere
Photographers Lucinda Chua, Edward
Steichen and filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock
have recorded a creative mood and
atmosphere in their work. This has been
achieved by a considered choice of
location and setting, or by careful
arrangement of props, lighting and models.
Sometimes, dramatic and thoughtprovoking images have been created.
Investigate appropriate examples and
produce a personal response.

Question 5: Image manipulation


Dark room techniques and digital technology
have given the photographer and filmmaker
the opportunity to manipulate images for
pictorial effect. Jerry Uelsmann, Catherine
McIntyre and Dan Mountford have employed
image manipulation techniques to create
thoughtful and sometimes surprising images.
Explore relevant techniques and create your
own response, making reference to appropriate
work by others.
