(Formative and Summative Assessments)
The difference between formative and summative assessment is that
formative assessment is an ongoing assessment that teachers do daily by
observing their students individually or in group settings. Observing children
and seeing where their strengths and weaknesses are will help the teacher in
the assessment process. Formative assessment is helpful for the teacher to
adjust instruction as needed. The teacher can observe or provide fluency
test, or it may be a full assessment. Formative assessment is the beginning
process of finding out where each students level of abilities are. A

summative assessment is given at pre-determined intervals. It could be state

testing or a benchmark test. Summative testing is assessing the knowledge
of students at a particular point in time. Using both forms of assessment can
give teachers an overall success rate of each child as the child is learning
and by showing the overall results of how all children learn by teachers
following the core standards. Summative assessment is the end results of the
lesson taught and how the overall expectations of each students abilities
