    Itseemsthatracialinjusticeissomethingofthepastandthatitnolongerexists
    indaytodayinteractionsandlaws.Unfortunately,thisisfarfromthetruth.AnnGriffinis
    onesuchexample.Whilehavingaheateddiscussionwithadministration,shesaid,I
    hateallblackfolk.Thiscausedtensionamongherandhercolleagues,whichrightfully
    leadtoherdismissal.

    PeterMelzerV.theBoardofEducationwasalawsuitpertainingtothedismissal
    ofMelzerforhisaffiliationwithNAMBLA,orNorthAmericanMan/BoyLoveAssociation.
    WhenitbecamepublicknowledgethatMelzerwasapartofthisassociation,therewas
    anoutcryfromparents.Theythreatenedtopullouttheirchildrenfromthisschool,ifhe
    wasnotdismissed,immediately.LikeAnnGriffin,PeterMelzerlosthistenure.He
    attemptedtogainitbackbyclaimingthathisrighttofreedomofspeechhadbeen
    terminated.Acourtoflawdeemedthecourseofactionthattheschoolboardfollowed
    wasnecessary.Parentswererightfullyconcernedabouttheirchildrenswellbeing.
    Melzerwasaselfdescribedpedophile.Evenifhewasnotfoundtodoanythingillegal,
    heisnotfittobearoundunderagechildren.

    PickeringV.BoardofEducationwasalawsuitbetweenateacher,Pickering,and
    theBoardofEducation.Pickeringwasfiredbecausehewrotealettertotheeditorofa
    localnewspaper,criticizingtheallotmentofmoneybetweenacademicsandathletics.

    Afterbeingdismissed,Pickeringsuedtheschooldistrictforviolatinghisrighttofree
    speech.ThecourtagreedonthefactthatPickeringwasvoicinghisopiniononapublic
    mannerandthatheshouldnotbepenalizedforit.

    Inthecourtcase,GivhanV.WesternLineConsolidatedSchoolDistrict,thecourt
    foundinfavorofBessieGivhan.Shewasdismissedforracialcommentsmadetothe
    principalofherschool.Becausethiswasaprivateconversation,thecourtsruledthat
    firingherwouldviolateherFirstandFourteenthAmendmentrightstofreespeechand
    dueprocess.Thecourtfoundthatbecausethecommentwasmadepersontoperson,it
    wasnotmeantforthepublictoknow,andthereforeshouldnothavebeenfiredforit.I
    disagree.Whenitcomestobeingateacher,anysortofderogatoryorracialslurshould
    bepardoned.Ateachersjobistobeopenmindedandcooperatewithparentsand
    studentsfromallwalksoflife.

    Teachersneedtobeselectedverycarefully.Whenitcomestothewellbeingof
    ourfuturegenerations,onecanneverbetoocareful.Childrenaretheeasiesttomold.
    Oneoffhandedcommentaboutaparticularraceorreligioncanstickwithachildand
    forevermoldtheirviewsonthatparticularsubject.Evenifitisaprivateconversation,
    teachersshouldneverbepermittedtogetawaywithpotentiallydiscriminatingor
    encouragingdiscriminationfromotherchildren.
