This is an image used to demonstrate Native Americans on the Illinois Indians page of
our website. It was a great visual for us to be able to picture what the Natives looked like
and what Marquette and Joliet would have seen along their expedition.

Joliet went on his expedition with Marquette, and in this source, Joliet wrote a letter on
his travels to Monsignor de Laval. This helped us learn more about Joliet and his feelings,
and also helped show the purpose of their trip. In addition it helped us figure out their
motives to go on the exploration.

allowed us to see what type of missionaries he was creating to further the Jesuit religion.
