Weekly Highlights
In reading workshop, we finished our unit on getting to know
the characters and performing characters actions and feelings.
Next week we will move into our next unit, Meeting the
Characters in Books. In this unit, we will dive even deeper into
fictional stories as we look closer at characters and focus more
on retell. Wednesday was Read Aloud Day! We enjoyed Slug
Needs a Hug! by Jeanne Willis read by Jodi Heights from a
local bank!

Homework
Homework will come home on Fridays and is
due back the following Thursday.

100 Minute Reading Challenge- see

attachment for details!

In writing workshop, we finished bend II with a mini-celebration.

We worked in partnerships to make our writing even easier to
read using a rubric. By the end of the week, we were ready to
add more details to our reviews and add more to the
introductions and conclusion in our pieces.
In word study this week, we focused on the word clusters l, s,
and r. For the 100th day of school, we read a favorite Dr.
Seuss story, Ill Teach My Dog 100 Words, and then created
our own book of 100 words that we know. Ask your child the
words they added!
During math, we moved into our next unit, Adding and
Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers. First, we reviewed all we
know about addition and subtraction focusing on vocabulary
words and strategies. We had a chance to play numerous
games to reinforce the skills. By the end of the week, we
learned how to add tens by using what we learned in our last
place value unit.
In social skills, we continued part two of our session focusing
on calming down strategies and steps for problem solving. We
explored different scenarios and acting out safe as well as
appropriate steps we would take to solve the problem. A home
connection was sent home on Monday to reinforce these skills
at home!

Reminders

In social studies, we learned discussed Presidents Day! We

learned about the life of Abraham Lincoln through videos,
