Explain the term diversity and individuality.

Diversity, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is the condition of

having or being composed of differing elements: variety; especially: the inclusion
of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or
organization. But the concept of diversity means understanding that each
individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. It encompasses
acceptance and respect. Diversity includes, therefore, knowing how to relate to
those qualities and conditions that are different from our own and outside the
groups to which we belong, yet are present in other individuals and groups.
According to Queensborough Community College, these include but are not
limited to age, ethnicity, class, gender, physical abilities/qualities, race, sexual
orientation, as well as religious status, gender expression, educational
background, geographical location, income, marital status, parental status, and
work experiences. Finally, we acknowledge that categories of difference are not
always fixed but also can be fluid, we respect individual rights to selfidentification, and we recognize that no one culture is intrinsically superior to
another.
In contrast, according to Collins English Dictionary, individuality is a
distinctive or unique character or personality or these are the qualities that
distinguish one person or thing from another; or ones identity. An individual
human being is capable of living independently of society while making his own
decisions. He has enough knowledge to exist alone without clinging to the
society as a whole. However, there is one problem, according to East Carolina
University. That persisting problem is that some people do not feel secure with
living apart from society. Abraham Kaplan, an editor who wrote on the
distinguishing characteristics between identity and identification, points out that
If we move too close to others, we are in danger of losing our individuality; but if

we keep ourselves too far from others, we face the danger that our individuality
will no longer be worth keeping.
