A simple compressible
substance:
A simple compressible substance is one that is free from
magnetic, surface and electrical effects.
In thermodynamics, we emphasize on simple
compressible substances.

P-v Diagram:
Consider a piston-cylinder device that contains liquid water at
1MPa and 1500C.
The water is allowed to exchange heat with the surroundings so its
temperature
remains constant.

Critical
point:
The point at which the saturated liquid and saturated vapour
states are identical is called as critical point.

P-T Diagram:
The diagram is also called phase diagram since all three
phases are separated
from each other by three lines.
The sublimation line separates the solid and vapour regions,
the vapourization
line separates the liquid and vapour regions, and the melting
line separates
liquid and solid regions.

Quality is defined as the ratio of mass of water vapour to
mass of the mixture.
