Introduction
Animal captivity, has grown these past few years. People mostly think
of household pets like dogs and cats, they dont think of dolphins or
orcas. This has affected people and marine life. In this article, I will
examine this issue by profiling and activist who works to help orcas
that have been captivated, another for captive dolphins, why
SeaWorld is torture, how you can help, and some interesting facts. My
articles evidence will show strategies and solutions for the devastating
problem.
Definitions:
and I do, I get in there way.(From Interview). Paul Watsons first job was to
capture and train dolphins for the movie Flipper, but became an activist after
seeing what happens to dolphins when they are left alone and depressed
which what lead him to the slaughterings. Knowing the risk Paul Watson
continues to fight for dolphins, and encouraging the public.
Sadness at SeaWorld
Have you ever gone to an aquarium, like Sea World or the New England
Aquarium? While you were there did you ever watch the dolphins shows that
they offer? Well it turns out that in the movie The Cove there were some
dolphins that were spared and
saved. The truth is that the
dolphins that are in aquariums
are not rescued at all, they are
captured and sold for hundred
thousands of dollars. This is the
cause, and an effect is that, the
dolphins arent happy and can
get depression if left alone.
Depression can be caused by not
having another dolphin in the
same pool and the same gender, this is now a law in many countries. Another
effect is that dolphins use something called echolocation. This is how they
locate food, and find their school, or pod of other dolphins. Now think, have
you ever seen people banging or knocking on the glass wall barrier? This also
sends waves through the water, so when they sense an echo multiple times
they get very confused and start to panic, which over time can lead to stress
and depression.
Facts:
71% of the Earths
surface
is water, but 96.5 of the Earth is made
of water.
Over twenty thousand dolphin slaughtering happen every year
30,000 dolphins are in captivity
Over 1 million marine life in the ocean today and of marine life
is unknown
ConclusionSo now that you know more about animal captivity, and that the
population of this matter is continually growing, what do
you
plan on
doing? After all the only thing that they have left are you. The simplest
things can make a difference such as, picking up trash or by taking
part in organisations that work to protect the ocean. Now that you
know what happens to dolphins in aquariums, do you still want to go
on that family trip? We take these animals for granted, so by going to a
marine life rescue can help save these animals and can help bring
them back to the wild.
