    Becauseoftherecentincreaseinemergencyroomuse,theefficiencyofEDsacrossthecountry
    hassignificantlydecreased.Thisisduetoalargeportionofnonurgentvisitscrowdingoutmore
    urgentvisits.

    BackgroundandHistoryoftheIssue
    :
    Overcrowdingofemergencydepartmentshasbeenaproblemforaslongasemergency
    carehasbeenavailable.Patientstakeadvantageofemergencycarebecausetheythinktheywill
    beseenfasterinanERratherthanaprimarycarecenter.Recently,thisissuehasreceived
    significantattentionbecauseofthefinancialstrainitputsonMedicarefunding.Manystudies
    haveconcludedthatitisaseriousproblemandmustbedealtwith,butnotmanyprogramsto
    amelioratetheproblemhavebeenimplemented.However,severalmethodstoreduceemergency
    roomoverusehavebeendevelopedinsmallstudysettings.

    ProblemStatementandRationale/Audience
    :
    Becausethisissuehasbecomeprevalentinemergencyroomseverywhere,themethods
    thathadsuccessfulresultsinstudiesshouldbeimplementedtolessenovercrowding.Iwillbe
    presentingmyresearchonthesemethodsattheStudentLearningConferencetospread
    awarenessamongtheupandcominggeneration.Notonlywillitinformpeopleofwhenitis
    appropriatetousetheemergencyroom,butitwillalsoencouragefuturedoctorsandnursesto
    implementmethodsofemergencyroomvolumereductionwhentheyareapartofthework
    force.Ibelievethatspreadingconsciousnessofthisissueisthefirststeptosolvingtheproblem.

    ResearchMethodology

    Sofar,Ihavecompletedmysynthesispaperandhaveathoroughunderstandingofthe
    methodsandtargetpopulationtoreduceemergencydepartmentreliance.Iplantodevelopa
    presentationwithJessicaJiangandAndrewTsaitoinformstudentsaboutourtopics.

    Tsai.Becausethethreeofusareatdifferenthospitals,wewillbeginbyprovidingdetailsabout
