The Calydonian Boar

The Calydonian Boar was a


Beast sent by Diana to
Punish King Oeneus for
forgetting to give tribute to
her.

The boar was as big as a


bull and it destroyed
vineyards and crops,
forcing people to take
refuge inside the city walls,
where they began to starve.

Diana
Goddess of the hunt,
wild animals, and
virginity, Her Greek
equivalent Artemis
and we know her
from other myths
such as when she
and Apollo killed
the children of
Niobe

Meleager

Meleager was the son of Althaea and the King Oeneus.


When her was born the Fates predicted he would only live
until a brand, burning in the family hearth, was consumed
by fire. To stop this his mother Althaea put out and hid the
brand.
He was in love the Huntress Atalanta, and invited her to
the Boar Hunt. He was the one to kill the beast but gave
Atalanta its hide as she had been the first to wound the
beast.
This angered many of the men on the hunt and both his
uncle and brother insulted Atalanta, for this Meleager
killed both of them.
After learning about this his mother Althaea sets fire to the
brand forfilling the Fates prodiction and granting Diana's
