The Portraiture Art of Modern Artist

Jacob Lawrence, an African American painter. He is known for his portrayal of African
American life. He refers to his style as dynamic cubism. Lawrence is a good painter that when
drawing self-portraits, he uses cubism. Making his paintings a confusing. It is hard to see or
identify the person who hes painting. For example on this self-profile, Lawrence in his
painting, draws a somewhat cubed head. His head doesnt look like a normal round face. Also
you can see his hands, how they arent painted like any other normal hand. They have somewhat a
cubic shape. They dont look round like a normal hand; it had a different shape to it .
Kehinde Wiley is a New York-based portrait painter. He is known for his highly naturalistic
paintings of people with brown skin in heroic poses. He often uses Old Master painting for the
pose of the figure. Wiley is a good painter who paints people realistically, on his painting you are
able to identify the person who is being painted since Wiley actually draws a good round face and
good looking hands. He does include fancy or different backgrounds. His backgrounds arent like
any other basic black or white background; he paints an exotic background with many different
shapes and colors.
Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet
and playwright who spend most of his adult life in France. He is one of the most influential artists
of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding cubism. Pablo Picasso is a lot like Jacob Lawrence
or Jacob Lawrence is a lot like Pablo Picasso. Picasso also does his self-profiles different. He
draws his face in cube instead of round. He gives his painting a cubic shape. Specially the head.
He even paints the background in a somewhat cubic form. He doesnt paint a fancy background, his
backgrounds are usually just a simple color, but in a cubic form. They are also like neutral colors. He
doesnt make his background colorful.
Fahamu Pecou is a contemporary Artist whose work provides critical observations on hiphop, pop culture and black masculinity. Pecou paints people, especially black people very realistic.
He paints their head, their hands, legs, arms, mouth and eyes like a normal realistic human being.
He does though; include basic black or white backgrounds for his paintings. But he expresses a
lot through his painting like the hip-hop or the culture of the black people; he gives his painting
culture and emotion. They express something more than just a painting of someone.
Jean Michele Basquait was an American artist. He first achieved notoriety as part of
SAMO, an informal graffiti duo who wrote enigmatic epigrams in the culture hotbed of the lower
East side of Manhattan during the late 1970s where the hip hop, posy-pink, and street at movement

had coalesce. Michele painted very differently. His paintings werent so realistic; he didnt include a
realistic face or a realistic body. His painting doesnt seem professional, as if he didnt put
emphasis on the drawing. He paints the eyes and the mouth along with the nose badly. They dont
look like a normal mouth or nose, eye.
Raphael Sanizo da Urbino was an Italian painter and architect of the High
Renaissance. His work is admired for his clarity of form, ease of competition and visual
achievement of the Napoleonic idea of human grandeur. Raphael was a good artist his painting
was basic and you were able to understand or see the person being painted, he usually included
basic black or white backgrounds. He painted people like normal. He didnt change the format
of the person face or the eyes, nose or mouth.
Titian Vecellio or Tiziano Vecellio is an Italian painter, the most important member of the

16 century Venetian school. Titian is a good painter who put a lot of detail into his paintings. He
puts detail into his hands or eyes, mouth. Everything he paints is painted with a lot of detail. Seems
like he puts a lot of effort into his drawings. Though he does many paintings with a lot going on his
painting. He draws many things at once. With many people on it.
Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was an Italian painter in Rome, Naples, Malta and Sicily
between 1592 and 1610. In his paintings, Caravaggio includes much detail. He puts a lot of detail on
the background, including shade on the background of the person who he painted. He also paints
people in a very realistic way. He doesnt mess with the persons nose or things like that.
Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was a Dutch painter and etcher. He is Generally
considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art and the most important in
Dutch history. Rembrandt was a painter who included softness on the people face on his paintings.
He puts softness making the painting look a little different. You cant really see the detail in the
hands or face because of the softness.
Albrecht Duerer was painter, printmaker and theorist of the German Renaissance born in
Nuremberg; Duerer established his reputation and influence across Europe when he was still in his
twenties, due to his high-quality woodcut prints. Albrech includes a lot of detail in his paintings.
If I had to choose on how to render my portrait in one of the art styles, I would choose
Raphael Sanizo. I would choose his way of painting because I like how its simple, his paintings are
simple and dont require much work, yet they are beautiful an eye catching. I also like the
background, the colors that he uses are simple but look really nice. They make the person being
painted stand out more since the background is simple, the persons face, emotion stands out more.

Quick Write:
1) Wiley has a really unique process for painting. He goes out to the streets and
chooses random people to paint. He doesnt only paint those who have a lot of
money. He paints random people who he finds in the street. He then selects
what his going to have them wear. He gets someone to measure them so they can
get their own dresses that fit them correctly. He then gathers them all and
does their makeup and hair. He takes a picture of them and then decides what
background he is going to include on his painting. After he starts painting into a
cloth the picture he got together of the person being painted and the
background that he choose. He then flies to China and starts painting with his
crew of painters. Some work on painting the background while he draws the
person.
2) With the females he chooses what they dress and how they pose, their facial
expressions. With the males, they got to wear whatever they want to wear and
can do any pose they want. With the females, he gets them ready and gets them
to get their hair done and their makeup done. He got someone to get their
measurements for an elegant dress, a dress that would be able to fit them
perfectly.
3) Wiley has a very unique way of painting. His art work is very different from
other artist. He makes big paintings, with beautiful backgrounds. Everything is
done with a lot of detail. He takes his time with what his painting. He also takes
his time with every painting. Creating a very detailed background. They have
beautiful colors.
4) If I were able to borrow one of Wileys aspects, I would chose to get a
background like his, with a lot of color and detail, something that catches
peoples attention. The beautiful colors, that stands out a lot. They stand out a
lot.
