A brief description of the summative assessment:

The summative assessment given to the students was based on all of the key factors of the
unit that was presented to them. The students were presented with fifteen questions that
they had to comprehensively answer and include their work. If the students did not
include work or their answer was wrong, they got points taken off accordingly.
How will you remediate for students who demonstrated an unacceptable level of
achievement?
First, the students who scored at target and acceptable would be presented with a multistep division word problem that would allow these students to gain more practice with a
more advanced problem. These students will benefit from this practice to prepare them
for the next step in their mathematical education.

While those students are working, I will be working in a small group with the students
who scored below acceptable on their assessments. These students seemed to be
struggling with part of the division process: starting off the problem and the placement of
their numbers. For this, I will present a division problem to these students and reteach the
method at a slower pace. After reteaching the method, I will present the students with the
division mnemonic: Does McDonalds Serve Cheeseburgers Divide, Multiply, Subtract,
Check out, Bring down. I will have the students practice with number magnets on the
board with the mnemonic, reminding them to go through each of the steps verbally as
they practice.
